Help needed wife's scooter will not start

Discussion in General Scooter Discussion started by Scruffwin, 23 May 2017

Wife's scooter randomly stopped, now will not start. Check plug all OK, good spark, starter works, but engine does not turn over, fuel just runs out of air box after few seconds. Stripped bike to find out if something has come loose. Found random pipe that looks like supposed to be connected to something, looked couldn'the find where it should be connected to. I have attached pics, any help please.

EGR aka PAIR

thats an emissions unit buddy . the connection you found is the open air feed, look on the airbox see if there is a port hole that plugs into . or an area tucked up around the seat area where it fits to , sometimes they have a filter on like a small box unit that allows air in.

It would help if we knew the make/model but that looks like the fuel filter with the arrow on it so you have lost the supply to the carb.
Have a look around the carb float bowl. Let the tube rest where you found it and look around the carb in that area. There must be another open tube for that to push in to and a clamp if it's still there?

All the clamps etc look fairly new is this a new scooter? If so maybe it's still under warranty?

the OP has mentioned when scooter is turned over fuel pours from the airbox. so its not a fuel lline thats already on the carb otherwise there would be no fuel to the airbox via carb. im putting my bets on the pair system and thats the air intake that feeds to the rocker head.

check this video by Vert at the start he shows the pair system and where its hooked up, then shows how to remove it ( this is a gy6 50cc motor but the pair systems are near on exactly the same for the 125cc and 150cc models to )

Well there you go that tube goes to open air according to the video as he pulls it out near the start of the video.
Why would fuel come out of the airbox when trying to start it?
I still think something has come adrift (fuel feed?) that only shows up when vacuum is applied to the fuel tap. In my mind I'd be looking at the fuel supply as the loose tube seems to be a bit of a red herring?
I'd remove the airbox and check around the fuel tap and try turning it over to see if it happens again. It may be running over the airbox but not actually from it?

Having said that is the scooter still under warranty??
It looks suspiciously dirt/rust free to me?

possible blockage in carb , excessive turning over motor without it catching can also cause backflood into airbox ( had this happen when pedro get the full tank of derv and me kicking it like mad without it catching cause a floodback into airbox )

Thanks for all replies, so pipe connection is red herring so that's good, removed air box cover, this confirmed fuel coming from inside air box when trying to start.
Another thing bike is Lintex 125cc, two years old, wife only does about 10 miles a day, and is always cleaning it so still looks brand new.
One suggestion is diaphragm in carb could be split?
Cannot see so will check tomorrow, will let you know what outcome is.
Thanks for the replies, great help.

Yep that's the next area to look eg float etc. If you can actually confirm if the fuel is coming out of the carb intake then the problem is the carb.
Wizard2003#10
That's happened to me twice in past few weeks. Def problem with the carb!
Scruffwin#11
Confirmed problem in carbon, managed to get it started using Easy start. Wouldn't run without keeping throttle wound on a bit.
Did a bit of Internet searching found brand new carb for only £20, so just plumped for whole new carb, should be here in next few days.

should have just stripped down the old carb had a spray out with compressed air and refitted.

DO NOT throw out the old carb, keep it so you can strip it down and see where problem lays, if its happened on this one its 9-10 times gonna happen again to the new one down the line, plus you will have spares from keeping old one ;)
