hi all,i have a 96 typhoon 50 wich is still as it left the factory. it has good acceeration(for a 50) but rubbish top speed. clock says 50mph,but feels like 35 and yes i know clocks can be out but by 15 mph? so heres the question.as this is now my everyday transport what would be the best way of tuning it without affecting reliability?i looked on e-bay and theres loads of after market choices but wich is the best?the exhaust will be first for the bin as its holed then been filled with gun gum(never good on a 2 stroke).hope you can help. cheers, numa

Depends how much muni you have to spend if you want a 70cc kit a polini sport is probably one of the most reliable ones you can get i seen a few of them go through a lot of abuse and they still go strong dont think ive heard of any off them going bang, i know leo vince zx exhausts go well with piaggio engines and go reali well with a polini sport 70 but i wouldn't get a leo tt also you could think about a pmtuning exhaust or if you dont have a lot of muni personally i think tecnigas are the best exhaust you can get for cheap. Also if your thinking about tuning ur bike i would get a new crankshaft if you have fairly high mileage any more than about 8000 miles nd i wouldn't 70 it i found this out the hard way lol

have you derestricted the bike...

check for variator restrictions
wack on a aftermarket exhaust - gianelli or leo vince
upjet carb by about 10%

that should take your top speed to a real 50mph

The latest 50cc p.m pipes i have been told are re-badged Dopplers ;)

And thats right...the zx does seem to suit a polini sports kit well...they both have good mid range torque!!

And i also learnt that 70 kitting a 50 with high mileage knackers your main bearings...mines still getting me to work and back everyday though...but i dont take it over 40mph, until i re-build the bottom end...soon :D

best bet is to replace the crank and mains, a full circle crank is loads better than stock.

ive always fought that the doppler exhaust was pretty much identical to pm so probably true but they can go well with a polini 70

The Doppler S3R is a good pipe...so its not a bad thing really...

more of this re-badgeing thing goes on than you think ;)
