Got a 'ped that's up for mot -» apr./14 + selling on for july/14 -
an thought i'd have the wheels off an give them a nicer paint job(think they've been brush painted!),
More than likely be via spray-can an just a nice clean simple colour
but would like advice esp.on preparation/preservation.mk
Hmmmm.................need to be properly stripped. Mainly to check for pitting/fatigue/possible spoke failure if they are spoked. A chrome plating place should be able to drop them in a vat for you to strip them thoroughly, cost should be minimal, especially if you know someone who works there. Try to avoid shotblasting.
As for re-coating.........steel can be anodised quite nicely, but if there is any pitting it will show up so it's down the powder coating route.
Alternatively, pop down your local automotive paint supplier, someone who does 2 pack paint, and get an aerosol or two of high build primer to fill in the holes and a top colour of your choice. Loads of paints out there with a high gloss finish without the need for laquer. And you get a good finish with 2K paint. It's the only paint i use.
You guys are killing my budget,
Think i'll go the old fashioned paper, prayer, sweat, route -
nice shiny clean like new?,good base coat, spray black or silver
keeping it simple but clean/tidy. .
£25 for both wheels? thought that was cheap,,,,and iam tight as a nuns fanny
next stage down for me if i was selling it,,,,,,,quick rub down with a wire brush on a drill then abit of hammeright paint,,,the stuff you can paint over rust,,,think you can even get it in a spray can
hammeright looks fine to me on stuff like wheels, calipers, drums etc,,,,,,,your wheels havnt got large flat areas so a little orange peel wont show up like it would on some other wheels,,,as long as you do a tidy job i would say hammeright is prob your best bet thinking about it,,,,and it onlys costs about a fiver,,,,,,cheap as chips even though fukin chips arnt cheap anymore!!!!!!!!
Starting at £25+ i'd go with / if I was doing up a 'ped/bike -
just wanna tidy up a commuter is all,so it's wire brushes,sandpaper +
maybe rubbing it a little nightly......... .
yeah fairplay fella if your just after giving it a good wipe over
another good one to tidy up a scoot in 5 minutes,,,,spray all the srew heads, nuts, bolts etc in black or silver either using abit of card/paper with a hole punched out
got lucky a few times going into workshops asking for nuts, bolts or screws,,,some places are used to selling them in the thousands so a handful sometimes come free
Aaaagh, why you gotta mention that now!,says the fella who just ordered a job-
lot of nuts/bolts/washers/screws/grommetts/pclips during my latest e/by fix. .,
laughing aside/thought it'd be a good idea as plastics well tidy but fasteners look like
they've been under water 30 yrs an just come up for air.,
Yep,just going for general tidy to keep bike presentable and capable of hanging around
for a few more years.......
Mainly to get a little bit of personal pleasure knowing there's gonna be someone as miserable
as me now for a while till they can uprate to someat better like i've sussed out+planned to,roll on may/14. .
