Plan on booking 'ped in 5 weeks early- to take advantage an get a 13mnth ticket,
if it were to fail for say something I missed.would that make the remaining month
left on current MOT invalid?.

I don't think so as the old mot was issued last year. As you know the mot is only valid for the time the scoot is at the mot shop! In theory you could fit bold tyres 10 mins after getting the mot so you'll be ok.

Be selling her on 2-3 months after MOT with new tyres/tubes/pads at point of sale...... ,
with the work i've done on her up to then / an knowing how reliable she'll be-
Kinda cheers me up no end knowing they'll be someone out there who'll be able to enjoy
being as miserable as i've been owning the epitomy of sloooooooooooooooo + ooooooooow. :D.

Yes if theres a month left on the MOT and it fails of course the remaining month is still valid, how can it not be? its all in writing.
Also if a bike fails an MOT and its got no MOT left then you have 14 days to fix the problems and MOT it again anyway. So if you've got MOT left over its definitely valid

If you want a 13 month ticket you can only have it tested one month before your current MOT expires, not five weeks. The earliest possible renewal date should be printed on your current certificate.

Cheers,
put my mind at rest a bit!,

Your'e existing MOT will still be valid up until it's expiry date, however if it fails it's MOT test due to a defect then it may not be legally roadworthy despite having a valid certificate.
An MOT certificate only reports on the condition of the bike at the time of it's inspection.

Thats incorrect. As if your bike fails an MOT straight after the MOT has ran out then you have 14days on the road in which time you have to sort out the problems. So if you fail an MOT with a month remaining on the certificate then you should have the remaining month left to sort the problems out aswell as the 14 days which you are normally given anyway

I'm sorry but part of what you are saying is incorrect there is no such thing as a 14 day period of grace, If your bike fails an MOT. test and your preceding MOT certificate has expired then it is an offence to use your bike until it has passed a test and has a valid MOT certificate.
The only time a bike can be legally used without a valid test certificate is when it is being ridden to a pre arranged MOT test.

Just to back up my claim, I have just copied and pasted this extract from the GOV.UK website:

If your MOT has expired

You can’t drive your vehicle on the road if the MOT has expired. You could be prosecuted if caught.
The only exception is if you’ve already booked an MOT and are driving your vehicle to the test centre.

Even if it fails it still has a valid mot though. Expiring isn't the same as failing

Exactly, that's the point I made in my first posting.

I got given 14 days to sort mine out anyway and it only had about 2 days left on the MOT.
Anyway thats besides the point. If hes got 1 month left on his mot and then it fails an MOT he still has his one month either way they can't take you last remaining month off you because it failed an MOT which it went in for a month early

An that pretty much sums up exactly what i'm trying to cover for!. :) . ;) .

If you read my original post again you will see that I said, the existing MOT is still valid up until it's expiry date.
The point I raised was that if it failed it's test ,despite it still having a valid MOT certificate it would probably be illegal to ride the bike because of the defect which caused the failure. For example I couldn't ride my bike with no brakes just because it's MOT is current, it would be illegal to ride bike because of the defect.
As far as your comments about 14 days to sort it out, you've misunderstood what the garage meant, A bike can fail it's mot on certain faults and provided you return it within 14 days with the faults fixed, they will retest it for free.
Once the existing MOT has expired , after the 2 days in your case, it would be illegal to ride the bike until you obtain a new MOT.
