The power band rev range varies between kits and manufacturers for example in the Iron sports kits the Malosi sport and Polini sport give maximum power over a small range from 9,000 to 9.500 before tailing off. The Stage 6 streetrace makes it's maximum power between 9.500 and 11.000 revs before tailing off. With a broader spread of power available it is easier it is to set up the variator to keep the motor in the powerband.
When you say Iron sports kit, do you mean the cylinder being iron as opposed to aluminium? have you seen the kit with a chrome bore sleeve? and without a dino, a rev counter will be needed to find the rev band?
Yes an iron kit has an iron cylinder and any good scooter parts supplier should be able to give you information on the specifications and power range of the 70cc kits. A rev counter is handy when setting up the transmission as you can monitor the revs whilst you try different variator rollers.
I think us 3 could do with a 3way chat going when im setting up my bike properly in a couple of months. Use are givin me good ideas Never thought of using a rev counter to monitor my power band rather than a dyno. Having an Aprilia SR50 09' plate I dont have a built in rev counter
have you seen the kit with a chrome bore sleeve? it does not have to be run in, I wondred what you thought of it
on this site, http://www.psntuning.co.uk/scooter_category.php?cat_id=855 I think it is a motorforce kit, I think he said it was a PM kit, if think that's right it is not on their site yet, I rang about it Monday (Yesterday)
It will probably be a PM kit. I think motorforce are fairly basic. I've seen cast iron, aluminium and alloy kits. But ive never seen a chrome one, must be a new thing they're trying
I bought a cheap digital tacho off ebay, It has a lead which you simply wrapped arounf the ht lead, it was crude but it did the job.
Think im gunna have to get one after winter. Im buying a runner next month which is gunna be my commuting bike so the SR50' is getting tuned to death to be a summer toy. I'll be posting a thread keeping up to date on what I do to it so you two keep an eye out and make sure you throw me some good info and tips All this talk about the Stage6 street kit has kinda swayed me towards it as my choice. As you say that wider powerband will be much easier to work with than the narrower power bands of the Malossi/polini. BUT im going for a yasuni pipe. they dont produce as much peak power as the likes of the ZXR but they have a much wider power band to match the stage 6 kit. So hopefully with a decent tranny setup it should turn out well
he must have said PM, I have lots of notes here all mixed up, he tells me that they wont be in until tomorrow (Wednesday) and that they are used in their racing bikes, sounds good to me
Nice one, I ran my bike with both a Leo vince ZX and a Stage 6 pro rep. The stage 6 was probably better suited as it was better at the topend, but the Leo vince looked and sounded better. What engine does your Aprilia have as I know some had fuel injection and different engines over the years.
Have a good think about the stage 6 streetrace kit I had no issues with mine and the spread of power is brilliant.
I ws I will talk to him about the streetrace in the morning, I will let you know, how he compares it with the chrome one
Have a look at the pedparts blog and draw your own conclusions, their conclusions are based on tried amd tested results.
Here's the link to a test of 70cc kits for the Aerox, but theres loads of other tests like carbs and exhausts on the menu. http://www.pedparts.co.uk/blog/malossi-sport-vs-polini-sport-vs-stage6-sport-pro-70cc Enjoy.
My mines got the Piaggio carb engine. Same as the Runner, NRG, Typh etc.. The fuel injected ones are shite. Its all computerized its nothing like a ped atall. You have to wait for the computer to load on the dash before you can start the engine... And obviously being fuel injected its an accident waiting to happen and when it does go wrong it aint as simple as sorting a carb out it will cost a lot of money to fix.
