i had a bust up with my thermo tonight the bastard wouldnt come off the original cylinder ended up bending the cage around the spring and cut some of the spring off as i couldnget get it back over managed to whack it all on the new 70 kit tho.. wat happens if you dont have a thermostat then cos air cooleds dont have them or am i wrong.??
thermostat controls the fluid flow through the radiator, many 70 kits run without, ACs dont have them because theres no fluid to control.
the reason why we have a thermostat is to raise the tempreture around the piston and barrel very quickly when the bike is cold the piston rings are tight and there is more friction on them going up an down the barrel because the barrel has shrunk due to the cold the thermostat closes a one way system going to the radiator, making the water stay inside the barrel and get hot which encourages the piston to heat up faster 80% of engine wear occurs in the first 90 seconds of the engine starting up when the barrel and piston reach an optimum working tempreture say 80ish degrees celcius, the thermostat opens up fully, otherwise if it stays closed the engine will over heat without a thermostat on most LC engines it wouldnt heat up efficiently and the engine will wear out quicker
HOO (fucking) RAY! One Yamaha Thermostat and one temperature sender. Guess what? The thermostat didn't come with the screws needed to fit it. :wallbash: Went back to the bike shop and he couldn't supply them but recommended a Lifestyle Ford dealer. I couldn't be arsed with all that old bollox so I tried a few screws I had lying around and cut them down to fit with a couple of small washers holding the lip at the side of the thermostat. It works. The screws which fitted in the end were the thin ones which hold on a lightswitch or powerpoint. (I think that's a 1mm thread) FINALLY! Fitted the head and did the nuts up to 10lbf. Hopefully next week I'll fit the rear wheel off the other engine ans whack it back in the bike.
noice!, i love the look of a new matt black barrel and shiny silver head, its a shame they dont stay that way what are your plans with the stand, are you getting a replacement or a sidy?
I'll probably get a replacement, unles my mate can weld up the holes where it's a bit sloppy. Off to ebay again!
Well I went to change the back wheel across from the old engine. I couldn't shift the allen bots till I used my electric impact gun on them, then they came off in seconds. Took off the caliper to find that the pads were down to the metal. Back to the bike shop again! arc: Once the pads are in I'll fit them, refit the caliper, bung the wheel on and THEN get the engine back in!
Caliper's back on with new pads, rear wheel fitted, Doppler fitted and at last the engine is ready to fit bak into the bike! 'Kinell if I'd been doing up a Chinese bike it would be finished by now!
Only just got the engine bolted in tonight. No wiring or pipework done yet. I'm sure it will fire up ok
bajaj, wanna sell me the old viper exhaust cheap? the 2xtreme kit is my first 70 kit, got loads more poke
nice!, yeh it should run well, you know the score but for gods-mum sake bleed the oil pump lol! (with shitty mineral oil lol cheaper and runs in better) funny, but i never thought id like the raw, fresh from the factory finish of some pipes, usually one for chrome but your doppler looks sweet as! , just clear paint it every other month and smear it with 2 stroke oil every other day should help with maintainance what carb you using mate the one from the old aerox? if you are dont forget to upjet incase you get a hole in your lovely new piston :msn1: lol looking shweet mate, the projects gone slow but itll be worth it in the end
I'll run it premix to start with on lawnmower oil to let the rings wear in a little, synth after that. There's no oil in the tank because the previous owner disconnected the oil feed pipe without plugging it :msn1: I found the oil on my workshop floor. Jeff if you're reading this, thanks! imp: The finish is really good on the Doppler, deep thick varnish. No doubt it will turn to cornflakes as soon as it heats up :msn1: Yeah I know about upjetting, but I think I might get a different carb because this one has been off the bike and lying around in a shed for a while. Any suggestions anyone? I'm not going Xracing with the bike so I don't want anything too big. I'm aiming at good accelleration over top speed, to piss off car drivers in traffic. Thanks for the comments. I hope it will be ok in the end.
