It started life as this when I picked it up from a friend of mine.
    DSC_0271 (2).jpg
It's a 1975 Yamaha RS100. A little research turns up it was only made for two years, '75 - '76.
    The back story is this:
It belonged to a friends wife way back when, then she passed her car test, used the fathers car all the time and this ended up sitting in the back of the garage for the rest of its years. Eventually the garage had to come down before it fell down and this got relegated to outside. But not for long. That's when I got asked if I would be interested in it. I hadn't got a clue what it was for the first few days, and a few members on here finally steered me in the right direction to correctly identify it as a RS100, and I hasten to add RS100 and NOT RSX100.
I only got it because the lady owner would only let it go to someone who would restore it. She wouldn't allow it to be scrapped, emotional attachment. Understandable, we all get misty eyed over some of our previous bikes don't we....
All this happened 5 years ago now, and I've just been looking back and I started a thread back in JUNE 2014 !!!!!!!
Holy crap on a cracker, how time flies by........
    https://www.scootershack.co.uk/threads/it-aint-a-suzuki-its-a-yamaha.34307/
In the previous thread you can see the progress so far..........in 5 years:eek:

However, I've started a new thread, so for the sake of not confusing it, I'll keep it here.

Should be collecting the frame and swing arm from the powder coaters on friday hopefully.
Plenty of parts stripped in the shotblaster, going to start painting them tomorrow.
Some gloss black, some bright silver, some will get polished;)

I think all the bright silver painting is now done, hubs and brake backing plates, lower fork legs, sprocket carrier.
Not much to be done silver strangely, had to check a few times to make sure......o_O
    Black parts up next;)
Itching to get the frame and swing arm back.

Got the new rims laced up, not trued them yet. Fitted the top and bottom yolks then found I need new steering ball bearings, left them in for now though. Had a play at polishing one of the rear shocks, came out nicely. IMG_20190217_192217.jpg IMG_20190217_165442.jpg

Both rear shocks have polished up quite nice, got the swing arm in. Nothing bolted up proper yet.
Dropped the old fork tubes into place just for stability at the front.

    IMG_20190218_100322[1].jpg

    This might clean up better

    IMG_20190218_102136[1].jpg

    Yup

    IMG_20190218_104207[1].jpg

    And so should this

    IMG_20190218_114549[1].jpg

Dunno about this bit though, nasty scab.

    IMG_20190218_114601[1].jpg

    Yeah, that worked just fine
Amazing what can be done with a couple of polishing mops.

Centre stand threw up some confusion, there was a spring that seemed to be fitted around the main bolt but for the life of me I couldn't work out how it originally went back, just didn't seem right for some reason. That got me thinking that maybe it wasn't the right stand after all, so I fitted it without said spring (it has the normal one as well), but then it looked like it might be too high for the bike when it was down, like the front wheel would be way up in the air.
So I put the forks back together temporarily, got the bike on the main stand and put the wheels generally in place to see the result.
Seems I was wrong all round, looks fine.
And I know the wheels are the wrong way wrong.......

Round the corner from me is a A plate KH 125 kwak, been sat for years outside, tank full of water, stolen recovered but not seized. £150 unsure if it's worth that, I'd only strip it for spares.

Not something I'd look at personally, re-sale is still low on those, circa £1250 in good condition.
The KE250 on the other hand is upwards of 4K.

Had to re-order another set of spokes for the rear wheel, other set is 7mm too long.
Got the main stand bolt in the wrong way round, realised when I came to fit the rear brake pedal. Need to replace two of the indicators.
Slow going, hard to remember where everything fitted, been stripped for over 4 years! Plus various smaller parts are missing, like the rubbers for the headlight ears. It's getting there though.

I've done that stand thing so many times. Sucks when its newly painted and you have big ass springs and screwdrivers scraping it to shit.

    Oops I did it again

Barrels in good order, no scoring, looks like there has been some blow past the rings though. New set of rings should sort that out. IMG_20190304_100101.jpg

Wondering why half the engine is black.......

    Slowly slowly.....

    IMG_20190308_190824.jpg

I'll have the clutch plates out tomorrow for un-glueing before putting the clutch cover on properly.
Need to make a new brake rod for the rear.
Genny, points, condenser and flywheel all done, clutch cable all routed and set.
New base and head gaskets en-route as are the new piston rings.
Shouldn't be too long now before it might start again.
