Fitted top box to son's X8R, thought what a good job I did, just some minor mods to the stuff in the kit, nice and simple, 15 minute job, feeling smug.

Went to fix box, wouldn't lock onto the carrier adapter/base plate thing.

Looked at it and realised it had gone banana shaped 'cos of a recess in the bikes built on carrier, as I'd tighten the bolts thing was drawn into the recess in the middle.

Swore a lot, undid all the fiddly hard to get at nuts under the carrier. Swore more and spaced it out with some washers.

Now job done, fag and coffee. Box suits the bike though, I'm no fan of them, but it looks right on it.

Yeah, I'm with you, fitted as far forward as could without interfering with the seat opening, fairly short moment arm behind rear axle, it's quite a diddy little thing too.

He's got the storage space under the seat for anything heavy. Box is more for stashing his lid as it won't fit under the seat, lightweight stuff for college etc. Pops off real easy to, so just the adaptor plate is permanent.

Never used a top box all the years I despatched (apart from if fitted to company/hire bikes), use to have soft despatch bags thrown over the back and a cargo net. Don't like t/b at all myself.

No hope of a pillion with the box on, good thing as he won't get tempted to give a mate a lift home on L's !!!!

If you put a big top box on there you can keep the L plates and put your mate inside......

i tell them what to hold onto before we set off and make sure they stay holding onto that, i tell them not to lean in with me and to stay pretty much stiff whenever i go into a corner and let me do the leaning in and everythings usually ok.

I've had a lot of people on the back of bikes for the first time, tell them in corners to look over your opposite shoulder to the bend. So if it is a right hander, they look over your left shoulder. It will stop them looking into the corner and trying to lean for you. Works a treat, you won't even notice them on the back, apart form the lack of acceleration!
