What the Ferk!??!! I applied the colour coat to the nose cone tonight and the colour looks bugger all like the label on the tin! It looks to be more of a plum red metallic, rather than the dark red metallic I was expecting. It has a sort-of pink quality to it that I don't like.

I'm going to leave it to fully harden overnight and see how the colour develops as it fully dries. I'll take a photo of it tomorrow night and see what you guys think of it. It's nowhere close to Pagoda Red and I might be having a fall-out with Halfords about this, unless a miracle happens overnight. I can't see a lacquer coat making that much difference to it.

Edit: here's what the nose cone looks like - can I have some opinions about the colour please?

The paint job is ace and even coloured but I am still not sure at all about the colour. It's supposed to be the same as this colour.

I'm just not seeing it. It doesn't look even close to that colour.

I like it.cant hurt giving it a blast of laquer once its cured..never know till you do..mmmm. nice job on that bit.do the rest like it and I recon it would look pukka with a bit of highlights here and there to contrast the colour.well smart.

I think the colour looks a closer match than you might think. If you look at the darker areas and take away the really bright bits created by the flash, I reckon it's pretty much the same. If you have a look in the daylight it may seem completely different. Also it could darken as it dries, just a thought. :)

Got my new Mirrors this morning so have put them on, I usually only have the right one, but as they're small and rotate inwards I thought i'd try the 2 out for a bit, I dont really like Mirrors but I find myself using the right one quite abit so, we'll see whether I keep the left one.

Nope, the 'pink' didn't change overnight, so I went to another branch of Halfrauds and picked up two cans of Peugeot Diablo Red and the colour swatches on the tops of the two cans were completely different colours!:confused:

So I gave up on Diablo Red went for another colour and this is what the nose cone looks like now, finished in Citroen Wicked Red Metallic.

Yeah, and the finish shows just how important the preparation is when you are doing a paint job.

I finally found out what the spring washer thingys are called, that hold on old chrome car badges are called (the ones that were used before they all went to self-adhesive crap) - they are called ratchet plates and I've ordered some 3mm ones to secure the chrome badges on the side panels.

I've also ordered some 110 gsm tracing paper, to print out the new fascia once it's finished. I can then stick the coloured transparent stickers behind the oil, high beam and indicator dash lights so that it all looks totally stock. The numbers and markings of the clock should still get lit up by the bulbs as the tracing paper will allow some of the light through.

I think you mean 'gaiters', Mark, unless your market is in the Florida Everglades..

'Gaitors' at the market might have a few women tripping. :p

you ain't scrimping on this rebuild...makeS my vision job look like the tart up I always said it was..give it a merlin class spray job and it WILL look the bollox..all that chrome cleaning will last longer with a good quality lacquer.my nsu had a shellac coating on it...heat resistant but after 20odd years of it being heated and abused had gone a bit yellow...took it off .. the pipe was like New..if there's a modern equivalent, polish that pipe and spray it ..cant wait to see that frame down to bare shiney metal.any small holes have them welded..just gives it that extra bit of satisfaction that it ain't full of filler.nice job bruv..

ebaying for parts for my build.
found all the panels I need aswell as a seat bucket, petrol and oil tank. just need to find lights and indicators. then that's the bodywork stuff sorted. going to keep eye out for another front panel as a big whole will need to be cut in the front and if I mess one up then ive got another to use.
    looking for engine cases now.

This is for Scootz, to fire his imagination, as I know he said that was scanning someone's fascia from a scooter recently. This is as far as I've got with the new Speedfight fascia for mine at the moment. I'm (still) waiting on the rev counter turning up, so that I can scan the fascia from that clock in and match it up to the rest of the dash.

That's after a lot of cleaning up in Photoshop and typing in new numbers, as I couldn't clean the edges of the old numbers up enough for OCD Monkey to be happy with them. Arial Bold Italic isn't far away from the original font that was used.

I really went for the retro look with that fascia, Scootz. So far, I think it's worked out quite well.

I maybe need to print a sheet of yellow or amber clear labels as well as the red (oil light), blue (main beam) and green (indicators) clear labels that I have already printed. I think the amber would work well for the petrol pump icon of the fuel gauge, with maybe some amber marks as a warning to fill up before some red ones next to empty.
