Due to me travelling down the M6 when I start this new job next week, I've replaced my sit up and beg bars on the zed for the standard ones again, changed the top yoke back, new throttle cables and choke cable. Still got to make new front brake braided line and clutch pipe. Also put a new iginition in that i bought about 3 years ago!
Getting used to the way it handles again, like it should really; forces you to bank into the corners rather than turn like the other bars did. At least i wont get blown off the back now like i nearly did last week.

removed it from sale as I decided that it would be a good joint project for us both to do to try and keep him off the roads. stored it at my mums and he decided it would be brilliant to sell it so that he could park his kymco in the shed instead - which he cant ride anyway because it has no 4th or 5th gear the prat!
kymco needs a hell of a lot of work.

Stripped, cleaned and refitted the drum brake. Sorted a rattly exhaust mount. All quite relaxing really!

I finally finished sanding the handlebar fairing tonight. It's had a tiny repair with epoxy putty to fix a chipped edge but it won't be visible once it's painted.

I've also got the primer, paint and lacquer - I've gone for Peugeot Pagoda Red Metallic, as it's more of a burgundy red than Diablo Red. I've also bought some decent wet & dry sandpaper in various grades, so that I can sand the new panels to provide a key for the primer and for colour sanding later before the lacquer. If the weather holds up on Sunday, I'll start painting the panels then.

My eldest son (the one that thrashed the poor Pug in the first place) is coming around tomorrow. With his help, I'll be fitting the new tyres and getting the new wheels fitted to the bike, along with installing the engine - I don't want to damage the new paint on the engine while fitting it. He's going to get to see all of the parts I've assembled together for this project and I think that he'll be surprised.

Tomorrow should be first start-up for the rebuilt engine. I'll take some pr0n shots of the engine with the new back wheel before we fit it to the bike, so that you can see some of the details of the inlet manifold, carb and filter. I must remember to fill the gearbox before finally installing the engine.

I'll also be deciding where to fit the new front indicators. It's looking like it may be below the black 'cheek' panels, just above the belly pan, but I'll fit one with double-sided tape to see what it looks like before committing to drilling holes. My son can also help me fit the rear carrier that I've bought to replace the tail piece, the new number plate bracket and wire in the number plate light.

I need new number plate screws, but I don't know if I need black or yellow ones yet, until I mark out the slots on some masking tape stuck to the new plate.

No sign of the rev counter yet, but it can't be long before it arrives and I can start to fit that to the clocks and sort out the new fascia plate.

I'm going to leave the alarm install until the end, when the indicators and new clocks are fitted and I know where the wiring runs will go.

It's going to be a busy weekend...

Got two of my own bikes booked in for MOT today, the neos and the runner, must finish customers aerox this afternoon, apprentice will be working on his own sr125. The owner of the POS vx125 still hasn't bought his panels round to be fitted so that'll get kicked outside, then I shall get onto the runner 172 with major electrical issues, I've sorted most of the problems since discovering that the rectifier had gone, it had blown every bulb on the bike including all the dash bulbs and flasher relay. Basically its a bag of shit bike.
Got the new starter ring for the katana so might even get to play with that this weekend.

I must admit that I did the exact same thing with the headlight in the old TKR front panel, Mark. The mounting brackets were knackered, so I used some spire clips and some long self-tappers to hold it in place.

    Was quite surprised,how quick/easy & free.it was-
driiled straight through the inner panel hole and straight through the front panel..threaded a long bolt, with a rubber washer+grommet? to insulate plastic against metal+give a mild compression fasten, bored inner panel hole out slightly & inserted nut, then put a flat screwdriver blade against 1 side of nut & screwed it together, presto.:) -
lower front panel (headlight/panel)where it joins too bellypan + footboard will take a bit of a think, but already considering another mid point mount ,lower down from the first fix (as bound to be a spare mount point on frame to use),to take up a bit of load bearing - then plate the joins twixt those three parts, and all of this is with bits lying around.:D.

Well, the Neos passed the MOT, the Runner failed!
As he was doing the brake test the rear brake master cylinder seal went. Spurted brake fluid all over his fingers. So thats an unexpected job to do.
The customers aerox has got more problems. Fixed everything that was on the list, went to put the antifreeze in, found the water bottle was completely, filled it with antifreeze, pissed out the water pump seal and somewhere on the head. Also had an awful racket coming from the belt case, discovered that the drivebelt was only 12mm wide instead of 18mm and the clutch slippers are utterly worn out, to the extent that they had gone through to the metal and damaged the clutch bell as well. There are also bits missing out of the variator sidewall.
The customer with the POS vx finally bought the panels round, I'll say no more about the state of those.
Got to have a play with the katana, found an earth fault, cured that, went for a spin and promptly blew the piston. Now it's only got 70psi compression. Not Happy.

Well my son didn't come around today, so I did some odd jobs instead, such as re-spray the handlebars and start wet sanding the new panels. I did find that a tab had broken off one of the parts of the new panel kit when I removed them all from the bags and bubble wrap, but that was quickly sorted with some solvent weld adhesive.

I also thoroughly cleaned the new seat and gave it some treatment with some black liquid shoe polish, it looks very smart now. While I had the cleaning bug, I cleaned and renovated the footplate panel, giving that some of the 'back to black' treatment and removing the aluminium footplates to give them a quick polish.

I tried fitting one of the tyres, but I never realised how hard fitting small scooter tyres could be! I have the tyre levers and the rim protectors, but after struggling for a while I gave up, as I didn't want to damage the newly painted wheels. They are a lot harder to fit than larger motorcycle tyres.

A friend of one of my neighbours has a tyre fitting tool with a little wheel that doesn't damage rims, so I've asked him to see if his friend can fit them tomorrow for me, in return for a small payment. If they can be done fairly early on tomorrow, I might get the engine fitted and tested.

I checked the new cable adjuster that I am using for the top of the Dell'Orto carb and the cable end wouldn't pass through easily, so I ran a 3mm drill through it to make sure that there is no fouling of the cable and ran an M6 tap through the plastic carb top, to make everything fit together nicely.

I finished painting the new panels in red oxide primer last night. I'm giving them a day or two for the primer to fully harden before I give them a light sanding with 600 wet & dry sandpaper to take out any minor imperfections before I apply the colour coat.

I scanned the clocks fascia at work and now I'm working on it in Photoshop, to customise it the way I want it while I wait for the rev counter.
