so I turned it upside down to undo the bolts..an when I found I did'nt have the right spanner or ratchet size(under V/C'seat),decided to go an get later,an went upstairs to have a cuppa-
WITHOUT putting it right side up................

The used carpet store can be your friend. I had to replace a living room carpet in an apartment after rebuilding a bike on a leaky tarp over the carpet.
i bought used carpeting that was installed, but not used because it was the wrong color. The land lord never had a clue. He even made a comment on how well I took care of the carpet.

    Was extremely lucky in this.!.,
as is my rote,i usually pick up free copies of the Evening Standard ,at the tube or s/mkt.-
whenever I bring any bike part in the house.i put it on a copie-
this time it was on a double...... when I went downstairs.it was about a mm from the edge-
another cpla seconds and woulda been a free road for all the oil pooled in the paper, not 1 drop touched the carpet, pheeew.:) .

Glad I checked the oil after the flooding carb problem.
I warmed it up and drained the oil. It came out pretty thin and reeking of gasoline. I am letting it drain and cool now. At least the crankcase is clean. It was a bit like running kerosene in a tractor engine between oil changes.

Chinese freaking valves. I have been experimenting with valve clearance. .004" seems to be working pretty well. Tight enough to actuate the valve, but not overheat. As the thing wears in it is starting to be happy with standard specs. I didn't think that was going to happen on this specific GY6.

    So far so good.

Speaking of covers, the exhaust on my V/C gets well hot.especially after a run!-
1st noticed this, when I nearly burnt a hole in my calf /leaning over battening down cover-
gonna see if I can fry an egg on it at the weekend.just for a laugh.:D .

I believe it would be possible to fry an egg on my exhaust if the fairings weren't in the way/the exhaust so short. baffles out for today and they go back in tomorrow. I love it when she has no baffles. she goes brrraaaaaaaaggggggghhhhhhhhppppppppp and then BANG if I shift up at just the right moment :D I need to mess with fueling if I can that or learn not to shift so high haha :D

Chinese POS was running so well, I decided to ride it down to the gas station. It quit on me 3 miles from home. It is warm here (80's) and I didn't care for pushing it home.
Next time it is running good, I am going to sell it cheap. Time for this thing to go. It is like a Chucky doll. It looks so cute, but will stab you in the back as soon as you turn around.

I'm shocked myself - actually considering going everywhere at no faster than 40 mph to get a more conservative tank range.

I hope to find a fool, er ah, buyer for the damn thing.
I will work it over when it cools down.
It is not the valves, the carb was new 2 months ago, and cleaned yesterday, and seemed to be working well.
I will check the fuel filter to see if there is fuel getting to the engine (have to pull the seat to see the filter),
    Freaking thing.
I can see myself on a 250cc Honda before the end of summer. Maybe something 10 to 20 years old. I like the older Honda machines.

I considered giving the POS to my great nephew. I didn't want to be responsible for his death at 18. At the time it was dependable. Something happened last winter and the thing has been a POS since. New carb, battery, complete tune up including several valve adjustments to make the thing happy.
I wonder how hard it would be to make it an e-bike? I could sell the GY6 for enough to buy an electric hub. May be an idea.

The last problem was my fault. When I put the new spark plug in I changed the boot on the spark plug cable. I didn't get a tight fit when I snapped the wire on and the new boot backed it out. It was pretty obvious - wire hanging and not connected to the plug.
So I pushed the scoot a few miles because I was dumb.

It is running good again. I took it to the beach and back on a test run. About 50 miles. It seems to be a tiny bit faster with the valves set at .004".

It gets a reprieve for now, because I didn't double check my work, but I still seem myself on a 250cc by year end.

There you go Mark. Something with a bit more power, and dependability.

As far as you gas mileage post, I found I use about twice as much gas at top speed than I do at 40mph.

San Diego is spread out, and there are lots of high speed roads where I wish I had a bit more power to keep up with traffic. I end up using a lot of gas on these roads because I have to ride 50+ to stay safe in traffic. Other than that I am pretty happy going 35 to 40mph. On the POS that is fine, as I am not sure what is going to fail next on the damn thing. I am just waiting for it to pop a valve stem at 50mph.
