Attempted to have a look what this whole knocking crap is...
got told it might be Rollers but I checked not long back and the Rollers were pretty much new, and the Belt, I checked the Filter while on that side which was all decent, couldnt get 1 of the Bolts off though, the one that turns with the Wheel, Brother helped but no joy so thought sod it as I know the Rollers and Belt are ok anyway... went around the other side, tried getting the Flywheel/WaterPump Casing off but I just couldnt be bothered with it all, the Bike is just out of my mind right now lol just want it gone! and considering I havent got a clue about the parts inside the Flywheel etc so wont have a clue what im looking for etc, so thought sod it and put all the bolts/screws back in i'd taken out and put the Cover back over the Bike, and thats it :)

I took the centre stand to work today. I fried the buggery out of it with the oxy-acetylene torch and managed to straighten it up and take the twist out of it, then I asked one of the fitters to MIG weld the cracks that we found in the metal 'apron' part of the stand. Now all I need to do is wire brush all the loose paint and remaining rust from it, degrease it then prime and paint it. One job per day is enough for me at the moment until my shoulder gets better - no heavy stuff either.

Taking full advantage of the go pro. Got to get one - and a helmet mount (phoaaarrr). This was the short ride to work this morning. Enjoy.

Watching the video again - I need a bit more clutch and maybe go back to 102 for the main jet instead of 100. Useful things videos.......
By the way, just after the roundabout I lost patience with an idiot who took exception to me getting back in the flow and tailgated me all the way from take off to the roundabout despite him being about 100 meters behind the car in front (which I rapidly caught up with. Faster than he was moving anyway. Indicators and swift decisive movement. The sort of thing you wouldn't even have to lift off for if someone did it in front of you - especially in a slow zone). Whereupon he tried to go round the outside of me at the roundabout- So I just lost the twat.
Just another arsehole in a four wheeled ball-and-chain taking out frustration the only way he can. I pity them.

This is why I want a helmet mount. And a mic. And a basket of rotten eggs.....

I got some Citric Acid powder today, to clean the oxide layer off the crankcases following the alkaline clean. The stator side is getting a good overnight soak in a weak solution, with a dash of washing up liquid added to reduce the surface tension, aid the wetting and loosen off any grease and grime trapped in the nooks and crannies. I've given it the occasional scrub with a Scotchbrite pad to remove some of the loosened oxidation. I've added about 1/2 cupful of Citric Acid to a mop bucket about 2/3 full of warm water. Science Abuse!!

I removed the old crank bearings first and they do seem to be a little loose and noisy now they are cleaned and degreased, so I was right in thinking that they were on the way out.

I've seen Citric Acid used to clean machined Magnesium/Aluminium alloy parts in tunnel washers before at BNFL Springfields and Cosworth Racing when I worked for Shell and the parts came out looking super shiny, like mirrors.

I'm not expecting that standard of clean, but I expect a damn fine improvement from the oily, greasy, oxidised cruddy mess that it was originally. I might even take some photos of the stator housing after cleaning tomorrow night and the transmission casing before it gets the acid treatment, so that you see what I am trying to achieve.

Citric Acid is safe to use (it's actually the main component of lemon juice and sherbert powder) and it can go down the drain afterwards.

This is brilliant. I thought turps and compressed air was good - but this- I have to try. How is it with exhausts ? Or does it only work on alu ?

It works on most metals; aluminium alloys and chrome parts respond best, as the Citric Acid isn't strong enough to etch the chrome plating. On the retro computer website I help to run (AmiBay), we also use it to clean circuit boards and neutralise the mess from old leaked clock batteries on Amigas and the like.

Dig some old cruddy bits out and have a play, then post the results.

Wahey! Zip's all up and running, changed the reed block and gaskets, got its vacuum back, reset the carb, idling nicely, just gotta put the rest of it back together, change the spark plug and he can have it back. Happy again, one down, two to go. But been shown a photo of this kids dads bike.......55 plate vx125, in bits. And I mean bits. Wants me to build it up and "sort it out" for him. Hells Bells!
Doing this from my phone because the bloody broadband has gone down, and bt say no joy til SATURDAY AT LEAST!!!!!
At LEAST I can do it from work;-)

I had a can of Inhibisol for circuit cleaning (keen DIY hi fi buffs in the family) but your idea is much better, cheaper and environment-friendly. Defo giving it a go.
