Piaggio NRG Power, 50cc, tt exhaust, 17.5 dellorto, everything else standard,
It's got a tapping sound, i'd swear if it had valves i'd say one of them was tapping, but it aint, so it cant be, just put new piston and barrel on, starts and idles fine, pick up could be better, little slow on the uptake, but can i find this tapping sound????? NO!!!!
    Soooo annoying............

just changed the reed block to rule out petal flapping, no change, gonna start taking stuff off the driveline now to rule all that out

Just kicked it. It starts. It holds it's tickover nicely. It needs some running in.
    Sorted!

Just had the barrel off, i'd swear i picked up a huge flat spot at TDC, consistant with the crank bearing gone, but there is no perceptible play in the crank at all, checked the small end bearing and pin, both new, nothing, checked the pin through the piston, nothing. Gonna change the piston and barrel for another make now, see what happens there. Puzzling this oneo_O

That got rid of that ticking it seems.........replaced the barrel and piston with another make, no more tick. Idling away nicely behind me at the moment, all i can hear is the exhaust, and a bit closer the whirr of the bearings.
    Happy puppy:D
Now to sort this running out

Hmmm, think the carb may be worn out a little, needle circlip on its top ring, 70 main jet, mixture screw 2 1/2 turns out, tickover screw practically all the way in. It's the only way it will pick-up ok (ish). Acceptable, but could be better.

    Try a 68 jet?

Just went for a cruise on GF´s scoot. Runs very nicely. I was very gentle, but you can tell there's power waiting to be unleashed!

piston slap or the oil ring collapsing?.could it also be the piston just touching the head gasket.some cheep chink ones had a problem with proper size ones on overbores.

Hi jim, god only knows, but seeing as it was a new piston and barrel and gaskets, its going back.

Hi turbs, tried every jet from 50 to 90, settled on the 70 for now, seems ok, maybe a littler rich but will be good for the running in period, if he does run it in that is; his own fault if he doesn't, i dont warranty pistons and barrels under any circumstances.
