Wash all the dirt off, wipe over with thinners to degrease but dont use too much coz it'll damage the panel, then satin black from a spray can. Thats the easy bits.

It will eventually start to flake off but its easy to just spray over again. BTW, the two panels under the seat on my zip are carbon wrapped, not sprayed.

Yeah I noticed the wrap, looks nice I am now wondering how much it'd cost for mine wrapped like yours, I think it'd look a lot nicer and last longer, then just spray the foot and glove box panels black, which are currently grey and the dirt shows so easily.

Oh just looked at some wrapping, maybe if I got the wrap myself I could do them two panels and see how it goes, maybe i'll end up doing more with wraps in the future looks like they could hide some nasty things ;)

So I dropped the motor off my GF's scoot to start the repair. She conked out on the way home, on a long straight. Scoot recap -
Ovetto, Stage 6 sport pro, Yas R, Doppler digital ignition, Del orto 17.5, Gear up kit & Malossi Overrange pack.

So here is the piston. Busted ring.

Unfortunately it snagged really bad and the cylinder is fubar.

The head aint too pretty either. See the bit of ring embedded in to top ?

This is just pure mechanical failiure. No idea why. Hey ho. Changing crank this afternoon & putting on a Stage 6 streetrace I happen to have lying around. Hope that lasts longer !
So I will finish the changing crank tutorial this afternoon and post it in the guides section.

I think I figured out how it happened. The pin is missing from the piston and the ring is back to front. So the pin falls out (whicjh isn't supposed to happen), the ring rotates in the groove and then the end snags on the exhaust port.
Not impressed at all. Manufacturing fault- pure and simple.
New crank is in and the street race goes on tomorrow.

My bad. The street race went on tonight.
with a 1.2 mm squtch and the doppler ignition too.

Cleaned the reed box & everything, resurfaced the wedge under the reed box, tapped the holes in the case to get rid of all the crap and put the bolts through a die to make sure we didn't have any thread disasters.
    It all went together beautifully.
So I just have to pressure test it tomorrow when all the sealant has gone off, and then we can have some fun with exhaust pipes and the rest.
I'm caned! I wish she wouldn't break shit like that! But at least we found the cause. Do Asso make pistons that would fit a stage 6 70? Because I've never seen anything like that with one of their pistons..... Grrrrrrr

Just pressure tested the engine. It holds 1.5 bar indefinitely. It's tight. This is the acid test and it passed with flying colours. Just got to bolt it back on and do some running in tomorrow. Sorted! And chuffed. It doesn' matter how much you know or how many engines you've done- when it's tight like that, it's just joy.
    I can relax now.
This is what happens when your girlfriend is addicted to stoopid serial TV. You get shit done faster!
