Getting my baby ready for her MOT, DSCN0002.JPG

replaced rear shock, back brake pads and disc. spent most of the afternoon getting the engine running, after ignoring my baby for abut 4 months.
next job, replacing the head bearings :(, are they easy:) or:mad:

I got a phone call from my son this afternoon. He had put his new battery on his bike and it started at the first press of the button. As if there was any doubt in my mind... (no, there bloody wasn't, OK?) Result!

started my scoot this morning, extremely loud, looked down at the exhaust to see one of the bolts had dissapeared so didnt ride it. Just been out in the dark taking it off and loctiting the 2 new bolts, not so nice laying on the wet floor with a pathetic wind-up torch:p

had a crappy ride to work this morning, bike was frozen over and didnt even want to move when i revved it. Also kept wanting to cut out whenever i slowed down, and throttle cable got stuck on full for a few seconds which was scary... after work i adjusted my pilot screw another turn out and the front wheel wants to come up with ease now :p Just really hate how it performs in the morning

Well you would have thought that undoing 8 little screws and one bolt to remove the inside fairing would be easy - but no.

The goddam m6 philips head screw (why oh why philips.....) that holds that hook on the inside of the fairing was rusted solid. This screw goes right into a tab on the frame - and the bastard was welded on with rust. It's that hole in the middle.
Now if this was my scoot I'd have angle grinded the plastic hook and the bolt off there in about 30 seconds - but this is not my scoot. This is my girlfriend's scoot. She's a girl. And girls need that handbag hook on there so they can cart their handbags around - full of five kilos of cosmetics and a whole bunch of other stuff that I don't understand. And her scoot is parked all day 6 days a week a stones throw from the sea - so you can imagine what that does for the corrosion. And you can also imagine (or perhaps you can't) the aggro that destroying the hook would have caused.
So I had to preserve the hook.
40 minutes with a drill and some bits got rid of the head (damn those screws are tough) and I got it off.

The new body panel is on - and the hook is on too - with an 8mm normal hex-head bolt and some axle grease on the thread I might add. Not doing that again....
Looks pretty good ! Amazing how much difference one panel can make.

Nice isn't it how manuals state 'remove' the screw. When removing a screw can range from 15 seconds work to an hour or more if trying to preserve a component! ;)

Fortunately I don't have a manual. Otherwise I would have torched it !
I was mentally prepared for this task as I had tried to 'remove' it about a year ago......... So I was expecting trouble of the worst kind.

I've got one waiting for me, bottom of the rad shroud on the VT. Right where all the water gets thrown up off the front wheel and they use a Phillips Head set screw  . Had a really good replacement shroud sat in the garage for about 6 months now! One day I'll get around to it, perhaps when the memory of removing the good shroud from the donor bike without damaging it, has faded in my mind :)

PS you can see it here in a picture a took a while back, good shroud leaning on wall in background, damaged one on bike waiting attention... ...I'm feeling guilty about it now :(

Bike looks in great nick. all the alloy is tip top - so is the rear spring on the shock. It screams 'care and attention'. do ypu have an impact driver?

It's getting there! Still tons of work I want to do on it though.

Yep got an impact driver, trouble is the lug on the frame the screw goes into will want to twist and bend, whilst the screw just sits there! Needs the front wheel off too to get a swing at the impact driver. I'll start off with PLUS GAS and then the impact, but if wont go straight away, it's time for surgery! Drill off the head and extract what's left with a stud extractor to keep the lug and thread intact.
