It's getting harder and harder to get insurance for modified scooters. An exhaust you can normally get away with without any problems, but I don't advise anyone to tell their insurers they have a 70 kit, or 172 or whatever. I decided to try being honest for once with one of my bikes, took me weeks of ringing around to even find a company that would cover it at all. In the end it cost me 5 times as much as if I had just said nowt. I have plenty years no claims, no at fault accidents and normally have no trouble getting cheap insurance, but just cos I told them I had a 70 kit it's a massive deal. I won't bother telling them about the fully kitted 172s, think they'd have a fit lol.

quick update ive been round and round with this bloody insurance thing and no matter what i try i end up back at the same point and its a big fat NO
After the europe cocks decided it would be better to ban new 2/'s in the uk being sold and bring in strict new legislation some of which hasnt come in yet 99% of insurance companies wont allow modifications on scooters/mopeds its because one of the things that is being brought in is some crap about new bikes/scooters from a certain date wont be allowed to be modified well most insurance company's are using this policy now and simply wont allow you to declare modifications on scooters and low cc bikes.

    Don't declare mods.

I've never been pulled over once for having a pipe, 70s kit, 21mm dellorto carb with a foam filter.

Also was involved in an accident and there hasn't been a problem with my bike.

Yeah but did your insurance company take your bike after the crash?

No. The police took it to a recovery centre.

Suppose it matters we're your from.

In the area I'm from(Atherton, Manchester, near Bolton) no one really bothers with us scooterists.

Not when I was in agony on the floor in the middle of the road xD.

They genuinely dont bother round here as every single one is modded in some way.
