It will be as blue as a Chelsea shirt and warped like the surface of the sea if it's knackered . Does it look as if it got as hot as a Phaal curry?
This is what it looks like it also looks like it's been catching on the face of the old clutch you can see a line all the way round on the inside pic
hi mate if you haven't already get a new clutch assembly I had the exact same problem with mine its a pain -- started hearing the noise fine next minute within 30 miles off riding I was heading into a town 25 miles away not a problem then on the way back my bike became too stutter then run fine and it did that for quite a few miles thought it may off been my belt. the wife got took into hospital I went back that night went too take some clothes in too her the new day and the bike stopped running on a backroad 10 miles from my town and too which was most upsetting I had no breakdown....... luckily after a hour off pushing and stopping the bike someone decided too pull over andgive me and the bike a lift...... bikes been perfect ever since and had no problems apart from the usual
Thanks for replying I've already got the clutch just waiting for the bearings to arrive then I can put it all back together and see if it's still knocking I've noticed some marks inside the gearbox it looks like the gears have been hitting it but I can't see see any wear in the Teath
Possible but.......you will always have some play in the gear cogs, it's called backlash, it has to be there to take up the stresses. More than likely you have a very worn bearing. Don't forget to refill the box with oil
Bearing seams ok I know there is meant to be a little play in them just a bit unsure about how it got there as the gear in nowhere near the casing maybe the previous owner smashed the gears haha and I'll definitely not forget to fill the oil up
Should there be a washer between the the clutch bell and the clutch as when it turns it rubbs on the face of the clutch on these
Ok so got my bearing and new final drive shaft put it all on and the back wheel doesn't spin as freely and sound like the clutch isn't engaging till slightly higher rev
New clutch but put the old bell back on just to test it going to order a new bell soon but even with out the clutch on the back wheel is a little stiff
Have you refilled the gearbox with oil and did you check that the gearbox rotated freely by turning the rear axle over, before you put the drive belt and back wheel back on? Did you use a new gasket when you re-assembled the gearbox, as a missing gasket can bind things up?
Yes to all of the above and ive had it all back out and it's something to do with the gearbox as now it's not moving freely all the washers and gaskets are all new and put in correctly I put the oil seal on the way it came off with the garter spring facing the gears
OK, so did you note where the shims went in the gearbox when you took it apart? If you've got them in the wrong place it will lock things up. The wave washer and the shim go on the middle gear and face in towards the main transmission casting, with the shim washer closest to the transmission case. Put them both on the middle gear before you assemble the gearbox. If it locks up again, check that the new axle bearing you fitted is seated correctly, but only tap the outer race of the bearing, or you'll damage the ball bearings inside.
There was 3 washers on the middle gear 1 normal 1 on the front and a wavey 1 and normal 1 on the back withe the wavey 1 closest to the gear and the normal 1 behind it
