Going to take a flyer on a replacement engine, see what happens. Will collect it tomorrow at noon, it'll be in hopefully by tea-time, however I am painting at the moment If I don't go to the pub until 9pm tonight, then I should be able to get the first and second coats on, then first thing in the morning, lacquer it and it'll be dry enough to handle by the time I get back after lunch. Sounds like a plan to me
hmmmmm i dont remember there being an oil feed on the manifold on the last katana i worked on...... you could just, you know, throw it in a skip and set it on fire and forget about it?.....
Well, the replacement engine works just fine. Ticks over well enough, still need to do a few minor things. The manifold that's on it is a restricted one, genuine Suzuki. So i'm thinking that I might try the other manifold off the di-tech as that also has an oil feed on it. That one's un-restricted. You never know, with the extra oil feed, it might stop me blowing the piston again. Obviously I'll have to do a bit of re-jetting to the carb. Then if everything goes ok, I'll change over the rest of the parts, variator, clutch, gearbox. I'm actually quite surprised at today. I had a plan to do things, and I've managed to get everything done, and a couple more things to boot. One no-one has got in the way with their problems. Most unusual and productive day indeed.
Sorted out the main stand on her, it was worn where it touches the engine cases, causing it to be unstable because it was going too far forward. A line of weld across the two points later and its all back to normal. Nice and stable again. It's ready for mot, some time this week hopefully. May need to play with the roller weights a little, or maybe a jet or two, just to get it nice and crisp. Hopefully (he says), this engine wont give me any problems like the other one.
