I had a R5 GT turbo til 2003 and then bought a 1.6 clio as a run around for work....biggest mistake I ever made selling the R5 need more power :banghead: Been thinking about Astra VXR but cant commit. One prob is, my driveway is VERY narrow so limited to some of the real smart stuff with mega BHP  ..not even sure the Astra would fit yet
id avoid the vxr tbh, aparently theyre fast but the engine management has serious issues and so power gets lumpy after a while. if width is an issue your right, most big bhp cars are gone atleast most jap ones, as theyre mainly wider saloon styles, but perhaps something like an integra? theyre not massively wide but the type r is pretty fast? all depends what you want to use it for and then look at your options concerning width, i wouldnt go and buy a car because it fits, if need be knock next doors house down and park there!
i lol'd at all the "redtop it" talk... spot the 16 yr old's who're dreaming for their first car ahaha engine yeah fair enough.. what about brakes, tyres, wheels, suspension, yatta yatta.. you can't just drop a 2.0 into a 1.2.. the brakes simply won't be able to stop you if your stupid enough to boot it haha.. some of you younger ones might wanna look into all of this a bit more as for whoever made this thread (i forgot) buy what YOU want, not what everyone else tells you to buy, buy what YOU like, as that way you'll be happy with it
bang the ren 5 turbo lump in the 1.6 clio maybe? (couple ren 5 engines sitting here if you wanted one, for the right dogh obv LOL) ren 5 turbo's are good but have shit inlets, pre crossflow so they boil petrol when warm and have horid electrics.. altho using a base moddel campus loom iliminates most of it, plus the fact its a carb engine so FAR less wiring to go wrong. the dash even go's into the mk1 clio's..the newer rounder ones are diff, but the engines still fit. i have a 1.7 turbo renault engine sitting for me and i cant decide wether to buy an early clio or just bang it in her megane.. but ye, renaults are pritty shit as far as electric's (french shit) and are generally cheaply made, but cheap to fix and you can get good power out of them (strong gear box's) the only downfall of vw is there shit gearbox's/driveshafts and shitty conrods (far too weak) other than that you cant go wrong wiht a german motor..
dont mean to hog this post...sorry Minor, I've had Renault since R5 in 1990 and then the clio new in 2003 and only had minimal probs with electrics on the R5, the door entry sensor went perc fan (common fault due to amount of time running) a flywheel sensor...thats it Clio.... new clocks when it was a week old due to the trip not resetting and computer showing dashes...thats it both motors have only had service items and a drive shaft on the R5...mind I only do minimal milage R5 was 13years old when I sold it and had 89K Clio is 7 years next week and has just done 30K Exup is 19 years old and done 15K and twincam is 23yrs old and done 57K ...all genuine milage
i`ve got a mondeo zetec-s tdci at the mo. for a four door repmoblie it`s fast as fook, but am getting bored of it now and fancy something rear wheel drive. thinking of maybe a E46 330d or go a bit more and get a y reg E46 M3. gonna have a manual one though as there are too much to go wrong with SMG`s. used to work for bmw and heard some right horror stories.
first car, second car ect ? always go for 5 door not hatch back  factory fitted alarm/immobiliser is a bonus :beg: cheaper insurance all round as it's not classed as a chav hatchback :rules:
Just been hanging my nose over the FT86's. Rang Toyota Friday for more info but the sealers don't have anything yet :banghead: Hope they go as good as they look and compare to the AE86. It'll be mega to have one of both
yeah they are fairly cheap considering they are a merc. mates got one, he think its shit compared to his gti, but i wouldn't complain, was thing of getting one my self but insurance quoted me "ha...are you dumb?"
mines well cheap on c and e class merc's.. WAY cheaper than a half decent beemer (even thats less than a grand mind..)
yeah i know, the bm's were way worse, got a 8 grand quote for a 350z and rx8 :cray: you can only dream of having a nice 1st car unless your loaded i swear, you have to own something so shit that i just think might as well stick with two wheels
or insure in daddy's name and have a fiesta wiht cover to drive any car... means paying 2 lots of insurance, but its always cheaper... but ye, will be expensive in london... especially for somthing nice. its more likely to need repairing, being new/high end cars a small bump means a grand or two in repairs.. but hey.. ncb helps... nobody should have a nnice car first off anyway.. this is the point insurance companys and the PRICING of cars is trying to show. expensive cars mean expensive insurance.. gotta remember retail price not what you pay second hand
Just been sortin insurance for my lads first car 106 quicksilver 1.4 enjin cheapest for 17 year old..........£2092 TPO with Tesco ...AND thats with a years no claims from his ped 'KIN RIP OFF :banghead: Tried to insure it in our names with him as a named driver but insurance companies have got wise to that one now...and load all policies according to the youngest/riskiest driver They wouldn't even touch him on either my Clio or the wifes Mini :banghead:
i've always found the best quotes direct line cratch: 900 on 1.3i mini (named driver) 1300 on my own , 1.8i escort zetec was 1500 (named) 3000 on my own LOOOOOOOL  other shitty companys like compare the market nd shit wanted 3500 named driver on the escort
