hi chewy.if you've got petrol coming out of your tank, your half way there....if you get an inline petrol tap to turn it on and off ..gives you the option of relying on the float or not..just plug up all the outlets on the 4 way tap that you don't need and then strip your carb and check the float is the right hight..thats the bit that sounds like its not shutting off and causing petrol to piss out.old carbs and petrol standing for a while get a bit gummed up and the dinky pin that stop the flow when the bowl is full gets a bit mankey.if it starts its a bonus...so long as no one with half a brain has mucked about with it it will likely just need a clean up.pen and paper and take every thing off, write down all the positions of screws and stuff and take pics if you ain't sure what's what..theres bugger all in them really to worry about...so long as you don't bend or force anything you should be fine.clean all the holes and don't use force..once its together ...turn it up side down and gently blow down the petrol inlet pipe..if you feel a slight pressure..its probably a goer..if it pisses petrol...float arm needs bending or the pin ain't seating right cos it might have a naused seat seal. one thing at a time take it steady..welcome to the forum...
