hahaha LOL ^^^ coming from someone who wants a geared 50?

love for you all to back your ideas up when youve owned on one or worked on a cunting thing, only one of you who has is seanwhite

and like you said his rs he supposedly bought with a monster "33bhp" kit on it with a full rebuild costing 700 quid failed already (and you bought it November time?) and look he has spent 4 grand on it on just the engine alone trying to keep it going LOL

hang on a second but isnt that equivalant to 4 second hand RS's ? OR A BRAND NEW ONE? with extra money left?

my japanese geared 125 2 stroke seized at 14,700 miles in end of december, rebuilt the top end for under a hundred quid....

the cant even get a rs barrel replated for that!!!

done over 1000 miles since on my dt and it hasnt made a fucking squeek since

they r a waste of time, but hey YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKIN ABOUT... im wrong about this one obviously

The handling may be shit hot and brakes renouned to be good, but they are fucking rediculously time wasting cunts to maintain

speak to anyone who has actually owned one and theyll tell you more....

Thought i'd have a say here as having just taken ownership of a 1990 Cagiva Mito, I have been truly shocked. It's been stood for 6 years without been used, yet with a wee bit of easy-start and fresh fuel it fired up sound. And having stripped it down to the bones it isn't made like a spaghetti bolognese, the quality is surprisingly good....even the fork seals are fine.

The problems occur when some badboy in his Nike traksuit rags one about, bodges everything up and spends the best part of 5 seconds warming it up before crashing through the box up to 80mph to get to the shops and back. My mates Honda NSR is good for his daily commute and thats still an italian bike with a honda badge, cause he looks after it (although it's been dropped a fair bit).

Dude get what you want Yamaha have just released the YZF-r125 which looks mint and sounds nice for a 125cc. Either that or the identically engined wr125 supermoto which is miles better than that poxy xt125x

they are a fast bike, but by no means a reliable or a commuter bike, I'm a apprentice in a garage and never worked on one until i was employed there, i think i can safely say that after 7 total engine rebuild(2 of which on the same bike within 2 months) I'm sick and tired of the shitters.

if you want something fast for the weekend then yeah go for it, but if you want something to get you to and from work AND have have a tear up on sunday then go for something else.

cant remember who mentioned it but the tzr 125 is a wicked bike, if i was you i'd buy a 95 belgrada and rebuild the engine for own peace off mind. will last you forever and WILL out do a rs anyday.

I bought a low milage RS125 a couple of years ago for a summer fun bike, the first thing i did was rebuild the fucker. new mains and seals and new top-end.

the bike was awesome! handling is spot on (if you get a good one) and the power was good for a 125.

    BUT

Don't buy one as your only form of transport and don't expect to use it every day. for every hour on he road you NEED to spend 30 mins in the workshop. I loved every minute of my rs125 but i wouldn't have another for the simple reason that they are arguably the highest maintainance bike out there.

Get an RS for sundays, not to commute, not to go to school/college/uni/work on because it's cool etc...

If you want a decent superbike style 125 get an old Teezer, or an RG. your best bet is save your money and do your bike test, then get a 250 RD or something like that, it'll turn more heads than an RS any day and it's more of a thrill to ride. ok it's not going to go round corners like an RS but i'm yet to meet anyone who can actually ride an RS to anywhere near lits limits. The RD will make you a better rider and will never be worthany less than when you bought it.

rs's aren't really that bad. i've had three now, not through them siezing or anything, just sold them on. got one at the moment with a 257 engine. build quality is fine for a 3.5k bike. the 122's are fine, 123's might suffer more in the hands of teenagers. stick to the manual for service intervals, warm it up properly, don't use lawnmower oil, don't mix oils, dont wait for the oil light to come on before you top it up etc and i can't imagine any possible reason why it would be anything other than reliable. starter motors and speedo drives are about the most common complaint but that's nothing to do with engine reliability. how many 17 year old want to sit outside warming a bike up for 10-15 mins every time they wan't to go out? surely aprilia would get done for selling faulty goods if they went bang with the regularity people on here think they do. i'm sure the ones that go bang after rebuilds aren't using rotax parts, mostly because they're prohibitively expensive, but then they're going to last longest in all reality. so in 4 years of owning them, i've never, not once, had anything go wrong with a 122.
got a mito in the shed as well, a 2001 evo, can't say much about them because i bought it last week. build quality looks fine though

i think the word people are looking for to describe the rs is "unreliable" not "shit".
they handel, stop, corner etc well. they just dont work as a road bike unless you have a pit crew on call for when things go wrong.

iv owned one so im speaking from experience.

id never buy one knowing what i know now (minor would let me either) but i wouldnt go as far to say that they are a all over bad bikes.

i dont think theres much point to the geared 2t 125 market any more

they are good for what they are.

but all comes at a cost.

need money to keep the thing in top con

    just a toy really

    useless as "just a bike"

But of course if you was after a reliable day to day 125 that you could ride on bread and butter money in the middle of a blizzard and still expect it to last 40,00 miles you'd be looking for a Honda Cg125 wouldn't you?

If you treat it as a weekend ride and respect it (adhere to service schedules, use fully synthetic oil only, give it plenty of time to warm up and so on) then it should be fantastic in it's role. Personally i'd have one alongside a shitty CG which i'll have brought with the money i saved from not having to repair the Mito through using as a commuter.

Must admit im a 2T fan myself, ive not owned a RS....but have had a few quick(ish) 2T
125's back in the day :D

The reliability of the RS wouldnt be such an issue with me, after all when you start tuning
Auto scooters up, your in a lot of cases making them faster at the sacrifice of reliability ;)
