If anyone on the forum lived closer to me (Newport, Wales) i would PAY YOU £80 to do it properly
If i were you i'd spend that 80 quid on some half decent tools (impact gun, socket set, allen keys, whatever) and do the job yourself, then if you want to change any other part, you'll have some know how and the tools to do it with. It'll save you a lot of money in the long run, and with that 80 quid wasted with them clots, you could have been close to getting a 70 kit
Start from around 80 quid for a cheap one can go into the hundreds easily. 8mm socket for the tranny case (well on piaggio) You can get the big tool box sets for like 100 quid for a cheap one. Im gonna buy one soon.
Okay the impact wrench will be 80 quid alone, but thats well worth it if you're into tuning your bike. The rest of the tools are standard fare really, and will be necessary to do anything other than look at your bike. yep might buy myself a halfords tool set, near 300 quid though but with a storage case too imp:
you can throw £80 my way anytime mate im running same set up as you and when i was setting my variator up i had same problem, basicly what happens is when you come to a hill the rollers are to heavy so after the hill it wont pick back up ? but i bet if you stop and pull of agen its alright ?
u dont have to buy an impact gun you could just get a variator locking tool and a nice ratchet.. i hardly ever use an impact gun, its much better when u do though
I haven't got one, however i wish i did cause the fin's on my variator are half there half broken off . Or just get the locking tool, a socket and a good whack of the hammer
no n o FUCKING NO NEVER hit a spanner/hammer with a hammer.. if its that tight whoever last worked on your bike is an asshole. an impact wrench is NOT ebtter than a locking tool. how the hell can you set CORRECT torque on the nut wiht an impact wrench? exactly, you cant, hence EVERYONE who uses one overtightens nuts so no fucker can undoo them.. as for the hammer remark.. go buy some decent tools an you wont need this method (as in a long breaker bar)
Not to tighten the variator of course, i might be a bit saft but i ain't a complete dumass. To change my rollers first time some fucker had made off with my longbar for my sockets so i used a short one, and tapped it with short sharp taps till it loosened off, the bike had never been touched before this too so must have left the factory like it. When i reassembled got the longarm back and tightened with a bit of loctite on the thread, not too tight though Piece of piss and if you can fuck that up, :w00t:
You need both mate. For mine its a 8mm for the tranny case bolts, a 15mm for the variator nut and you put the locking tool into place using your engine casing bolts.
cheap way round you can get electric impact guns there not the best but my matejust got one there £20 and do the job but obv there not the best
argos and maplin have got eleccy impact guns for 20 squid i'de get a decent quality socket to fit ya variator though cause the ones that come with em might be made of chocolate
I got an Electric one, they do the job perfectly cost me £16 from Aldi's, lol, Took my bike to the pros this morning they new what was wrong with it straight away should be running perfect by Monday
