I really don't like not having mirrors. I check mine very often, and also always properly check over my shoulder before changing lane or turning. I think if you're using your mirrors and checks properly you always have a better idea of what's around you.
Ha ha, I kinda do mate yeah. Didn't do my checks or look in mirrors when pulling off a roundabout a couple of years ago, next thing I know a cars driven straight in to the side of me and I'm on the floor with a broken shoulder. A tough lesson to learn.
They're pointless IMO. It's the first thing I take off my bikes In the time it takes to look at each mirror (which rarely give you a good view of the road at all IMO) you can do a lifesaver which let's you see everything you'd need to and allows you to judge speeds better. At least this way you dont have your eyes on the floor effectively either. Can't think of any times while riding (or even after near misses) when I've needed or wanted mirrors. If you're doing mile after mile on Aroads I could see the logic though.
very good opinion there ramo , i take mine off aswell agree with u and it also helps to if there is any police cars or undercover saved me a section 59 once lol
there IS a down side to not having mirrors but i find its when travelling at speed. Its a pain in the arse trying to make sure your visor stays down when you turn your head around to look back. Its easy for the wind to get underneath and whip the visor either up or in one case at night I had...completely off. I was lucky to be close enough to home to fetch a spare but I returned to the same spot the following morning and still couldnt find the visor. I now always hold the bottom edge down if going at any speed....bit of a gut reaction
That's another reason why I like my mirrors. If you bare in mind I live on a big 60mph a road, and probably spend 75% of my riding time on 60 and 70mph roads, having mirrors probably makes more sense for me than others.
sounds like you have ever a shit helmet, a very old one or you fitted the visor wrong. you see super bikes it 150+ looking back with no problems. i have never had that problem in the 12 years (on road) i have been on bikes
My lid is approx 15-20 years old now but was top of the Shoei range when bought. its a X8R and cost £350 at the time and then had a further £300 in paintwork done. Its in A1 condition and has NEVER been bumped or dropped. i like it so much that i'll stick with it even tho its dated and according to the gods; needed replacing years ago if to comply with ACU standards....after all its my head its got to protect and therefore my choice to use it. The visor that I lost was fixed correctly but it was a damp cold night and theres a feature on the lid that allows you to hold it open a fraction to help keep it clear...the draught got under the bottom and ripped it off in an instant. i dont make a habit of riding in winter or even the dark now days...I use the car for that. The bikes are now summer time toys to get used and abused on demand along with my AE86
i'll put money on thats its better quality (fit and comfort) AND condition than 90% of the lids out there at present. This is still its condition at present...not a mark on it!...and fits like a glove sorry OP
been riding my ped for ©9-10 months ,never been fully aware legal aspects of mirrors, just ran it with r.mirror has worked well (good v angle out the back)
You don't NEED them but they are useful and save you having to look over your shoulder all the time. Only reason I don't have mine is because I was messing about in my garden when the grass was wet and I fell off and broke it :3
When riding years ago, was'nt worried whether i had mirrors or not (nothing overtook me!). Had my ped otr ®10 months ,shes standard and a mirror was handy because of people creeping up behind me,and experience has taught me the attitudes certain drivers/driving certain vehicles have-at the moment they give/gave me a heads up with what i might have to deal with.
You might never have bumped/dropped it,what about someone else-bearing in mind you'll probally never find that out. Good quality tools,+,last a while-but internal damage on a helmet isn't usually something that's readily noticeable.
I bought it from new and dont intend selling it to anyone else so its not an issue. ...plus I'd NEVER lend a lid to someone else. Its unhygenic!!!
Bumped or dropped it,kinda working that comment from (not always in your line of sight/locked in a safe) perspective.,not paranoid just been around awhile. .as for hygenic/nuff said.
My point is that I do know its not been dropped or bumped...PERIOD. Its kept in its box in a store at home with my leathers that I have to climb into to access...we've no-one else that goes in there coz theres nothing in there for anyone else. When the lid is out and about, I carry it with me in the lid bag. The lids only been used occasionally. I've done 6000 miles in 17 years... the bikes only done 16K from new
