Hence the use of a big magnifying glass;), difficult to see if it's a nice even ring all round without it. But they're done now, all nice and even and no pits on either of the faces.
Been a while since I've had to do something like this on any bike, I think the last one i did was my old goldwing.

    More shims ordered. 2.35/2.40/2.45mm
They're not going to land before the weekend but nothing i can do about that.
And before anybody says anything................yes I know i could build it up and put the head back on the bike and do all that stuff, but it's much easier to do it on the bench as it is now.
That way if I drop a shim, it's got no chance of dropping into the block requiring an engine out and strip to retrieve it. Which I don't think it can thinking about it, seeing as the cam chain is on the side and not in the middle.
Now it's got me thinking that I can build it up safely without fears.....................
    And now I'm rambling.................. AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!!

sometimes those shims give different gaps when you flip them, the way they wear on the top of the valve if that makes sense? its never much, but its noticable, had it on a few neos 4t tops that ive serviced.

    Digital micrometer. Calibrated to 0.0001"
Great piece of kit for jobs like this.
And for the cost of the shims, probably better to replace them now, plus i'll still have bigger ones for when i do need them.

Well, new shims turned up the next day:D well happy.
That means that over saturday night and sunday i can get on with finishing the old girl.
Really need to get back on it because this using the car thing to go to work is doing my fruit in.
Got offered a nice little earner up til xmas shunting trailers round the yard for Boots. On nights, 12 hour shifts, but the money they are paying me is just too good to turn down, plus its only til xmas so i think i can deal with that.

So I worked through the night,
1: because i had a runner to do,
2: because i'm at work sunday night and dont want to screw up my sleep pattern
3: because i can get on with my "stuff"

Valve shims are all done now, head back on bike, all torqued up to spec, cams back in, new front and rear cam slippers, new cam chain, all timed up, well oiled (wish i was) and moving freely.
Only managed a couple of hours on it because of doing the runner, but it's just a case of putting all the ancillary stuff back on now.
    So close yet so far
