i hear people saying porting is needed to fit 54/55mm crankshaft? is this true? as im debating wether to get a 52 or a 54 and cant see why it would need porting to work? edit: also what sort of cutters do people use to cut the nicasil as i have a few carbide burrs but not sure if they will chip it? thanks in advance!
small carbide cutters on a slow speed with NO pressure.. keep it at a right angle to the face of the bore if poss.. stops the plating from flaking. you need to drop the port bottoms down 3mm atleast.. just for it to run correctly.
it is a bore... the hole in the middle of a BARREL is a BORE... the item is a barrel tho, bnore refers to the cylinder "bored" into the barrel.. so :bird: back at ya you wont ever catch me calling a barrel a bore unless im saying "bore kit" as its a kit to increase the bore by using a larger bore barrel (or jug if you wanna get 70's) if i ment barrel what part would you be keeping the right angle to? :msn1:
minor.. what will happen if he didnt port them and he just put the crank in etc..what would the outcome be
ok this might be irrelavent but... what if you use a 1mm spacer on a 55 mm crank and a 0.5mm spacer on a 54mm crank... will this give the bike longer lasting strokes which result in more power!!! cheers
not atall... length of stroke comes from twice the centre of the web to the centre of the big end bearing pin.. doing what you sudgested will simply have the barrel lower in regards to the stroke. still identical stroke/cc but the piston will hit the head. not good
