I know you need to display l plates when diving on a privisanal license but is there any law on the size the l plates need to be?? I have just cut mine down a bit to stop them flapping in the wind. I just want to know if the police will stop me for it.

I think the L needs to be a certain size and a minimum border around.

I would suggest/though.that you get clued up a bit more from someone who's recently passed their test or got their licence more recently .....last time i had 'L' plates on my bike, was 1988.:).

IIRC L plates MUST be atleast 7x7 in size with a RED L and white background. No other colours or sizes under the 7x7 should be used. Ive ridden with silly sized L plates and never had an issue. However, Should you get into an accident, your insurance will arse rape you if you werent displaying appropiately sized L plates.

P plates are a voluntary thing and you dont NEED to put them on.
People who choose to are voluntarily allowing themselves to be treated like crap by other road users.
Bikers/Scooter riders tend to not want that hence the choice to not put them on... they want the plates gone ASAP normally. Plus who the hell does their test on scooter, Not alot of schools cater for it.
