Broke down a few weeks ago i ran out of petrol
    Low battery too
So i had to kick start my ped to get it going
It took about 15 kicks until it started
While i was kicking it, it started to slip the teeth of the cogs
So now it makes an awful rattling noise.
I have a spare cog shaft thing for the kick start to sit on and i think i have a kick start spring somewhere

Im just wondering if this is a normal problem with older scooters.
And wondering what that rattle actually is its there when it’s stood still and when Im riding
    It doesn’t get any louder

    Matthew.

the kickstart is resting downwards and the throwout gear (or starter pawl) is reesting on the engaging ring (starter dog) change the spring and the starter dog.. it wont rattel and it will engage properly... get this alot on piaggio's and it WILL fuck alot of parts up eventually

yer a part that costs about 30p. the kick start is for emergencies only but most youngsters dont like to have any electrics working at all

I have the same problem with my sym jet 50

everytime I start it a knocking sound comes from the kickstart. When I took the cover off I just had to put the spring back in place and line it up.

But the thing is it doesn't stay there and the kick start it's self if buggered because when I have used it to see if it works the spring comes off and the cogs don't engage.

None of the cogs had had the teeth worn off so there still sound

So I guess I should replace the kickstart spring
