Could be - welcome to the world of scoot tuning ! And now for a couple of things I have found which make things work better: When you have a kit off - remove all the old gasket and then give the surfaces a clean with some turps on a small square of brillo pad. Then degrease the surfaces with some kitchen roll & acetone. When you put the new kit on, use a fresh gasket and use sealant. Red Caff is the best IMHO. Give the head a wee go on a glass or granite plate with some emery paper spray-mounted onto it. Unless you have a weird head which has a protruding squitch band. These little things help ensure an air tight engine. And that is the key to a good engine. With Jets and rollers ? Jet big and work down. Roller light and work up. Try and get them to meet in the middle ! You can never have enough jets/rollers in different values in your arsenal. Get some ! Good luck !
It's fair to say I would be lost without all your help but hey you gotta start somewhere. Hopefully I can get the scoot running properly, thanks again
Went down to 3g rollers and it made a big difference in the acceleration so I decided I'd put the 70 kit on and it pulls off okay(could be better) but it cuts out at WOT and spark looks like I'm running lean so I'm gonna upjet in the morning and see how that goes... Oh yeah and I'm still waiting to get a bigger carb, there's a 19mm from petrolscooter on eBay only £20 should do for the time being
£20 is a good price for a 19mm carb, but, make sure its 2stroke compatible ..they got different emulsion tubes and shit for getting it buzzing.my one i just fitted and it ain't had a jet fiddle yet.it was from petrol scooters.got a lot of good advice from them bout my last running issues and dodgy chink bbk gaskets.carb came next day with no fitting issues, same with The ignition switch..but that screwed up cos of my iffy fitting.
Okay I'm crap at jetting and its the most simple thing... I've got it set with the 12mm at the moment, theres a 74 jet in it now and the needle is set to the middle and the spark plug is dark ish Brown but the engines getting too hot too quickly any suggestions?
Raise the carb needle a notch or two and try it again. If it still gets too hot then jet up one size.
The needle covers the mid-range. Your top end mixture could be OK but the mid-range could be weak and it's worth a try. Making the mid-range richer will help avoid the engine nipping up by increasing the lubrication.
That comes later once you have the mixture set up right, so that the engine is working at it's peak performance.
Okay so I lifted the needle and it's still getting hot too quickly, it takes like a minute and it's boiling so I up jetted from 74 to 76 and it made barely any difference so I put the 74 back in because it pulls off better but it's really sluggish like I have to give it over half throttle before it wants to move
I lowered the needle to the lowest setting this morning and put a new exhaust gasket in and it seems like everything's running fine now, I'll keep an eye on the spark plug colour though just incase but its rides nicely, thanks for the help people
