You would have to have it insured as a restricted 50cc. If you crashed or something of the sort they could easily say the insurance is void.

As long as the exhaust was e-marked it would pass an mot.

Tax is always £15 for any 50cc-150cc.

if i was you mate, i would buy a good lol mileage second hand bike for about 7/800 quid, derestrict it, put a e-marked exhaust on it and leave it like that as most likely police will not know its derestricted

Even at 17 it needs to be registered as restricted 50?!?!

Right i agree with what people are saying here but at some point someone has to buy new bikes because otherwise the stock of second hand ones will run out.

i would advise against an SR because the new ones are restricted down to hell because of euro 3 regulations.

if anything you wanna get a carburated minarelli or piaggio. the aerox is still a good bet.

MOST dealers will uphold their warranty if de-restricted as long as they do it, personally i think dealers are a waste of time and money as they will find or create problems which don't exist (ok this is a generalization, some are good and honest).

my advice would be look for a year old zip, runner, rox, nrg, typh, SR etc... with low milage and preferably 1 lady owner who used it to go down the shops twice a week. this way the bike has lost all it's depreciation and if you keep it nice, a year on will be worth nearly the same.

it also means that the warranty will be out, therefore any mods you do to the bike will not affect servicing. with a 2 stroke it is very easy to keep on top of servicing yourself as the oil never needs changing.

from a legal point of view, police will turn a blind eye to derestriction as long as you are sensible. keep both L plates as they use this as an excuse to pull you then start to pick faults with the bike.

if i were in your position i would go and buy a 1-2 year old rox/nitro and spend the extra money on making it nice and more usable in traffic.

in a town centre situation the standard bike will be adequite but once you get onto a 50-60mph road, you need a little extra go to stop people running you off the road to get past.

1st things 1st dont worry about it being de-restricted. believe me u can do 40 in a 40 zone with a cop car behind you and they wont even think about pulling you if your rideing safe..if i was you i would buy a zip50 or a typh 50 in my eyes there the 2 best 50cc peds u can get...

de restricting a bike isnt the big deal you may think it is mate.

    1. because police are all rather ignorant when it comes to mechanical knowledge and would rather try and get you for a cut down l plate than question if your bike is restricted or not, they will ask you if it is de restricted.. and you say no, you have a sports pipe.. you tell them that the cone restrictor is still in the manifold of the exhaust, all of a sudden they think you have told them everything about a 50cc engine and will be on their way

    2. a few insurance company's have been known to pay out after some one has claimed on a derestricted bike. ( no companies named )

    3. approxomately 90 percent of 50cc's these days are de resticted and/or have a sports pipe.

    4. you would have better luck finding the lockness monster than a legal de resticted 50cc with a 17 year old rider or under.

    5. also warranty isnt worth the paper its printed on, these day they will find any reason not to fix your bike for free.

Like every one else has said, just get a 50cc with a de resticted after market pipe. and drive carefully, police have no reason to pull you over other than they think the bike is stolen or if you are driving like a twat, or cut down l plates etc, how often do you see a 50 cc bike on ebay or similar that hasnt been de restricted. :D

just listen to the advice people have given you. So your thinking of buying a new bike and derestricting it? why dont you just buy a mint 2nd hand one? i mean unless youve got enough money to lose what will probably be half of what you paid in the first place, when it comes to sell. My friend bought a new ped fell off it pretty soon scratched it all up, next a dog ran in the road he swerved and all his steering was bent and steerting lock didnt work, now he hit a pothole went into a curb and smashed his front panel and light!
Hes pretty pissed its gunna cost him a few hundred for new orig panels and to get it fixed! If he bought a 2nd hand one chances are he could got orig panels 2nd hand in gd condition, he had said himself he wishes he neer bought a new bike.

My advice find a mint 2nd hand one, ride that for a bit and if you feel u still want a new one, then go and get one!

Everyone regrets buying a brand new moped.

I bought mine for £500 after it was a year old.

He paid £1500 for it a year before.

You work out the maths he lost a grand over a year :wtf:

    Im happy tho :pimp: :
