need a little help setting up carb please. i have searched and found some help but still havent got it roght yet so a little help please.
right i have a gilera ice with a leo vince tt exhaust and a malossi sport 70 which was set up at psn and was running a 67 main jet. i have just put a 19mm del'orto black carb on to replace my stock del'orto 17.5 carb. what size jet do you recommend? also i have a malossi red sponge filter and have modded airbox so intake is same size as carb venturi and should i up jet for a mhr rep reedblock which i have on way?
your going into territory that you will only be able to answer, im guesing the standard air box had a hard plastic shell around it with spongey insert inside?
so If your going to completey change the dynamics of the airbox itself you will need to start with a huge jet to start off with considering youve increased the carb size aswell go for something like a 85 jet or around that and if there is problems look on the shack guide to determine whether the the engine is running to lean or too rich
(there will be tell tale signs when you rip the throttle back - you have to read about the carb guide on here)
then obviously use the guide to plan your next move if your main jet needs to be increased/decreased, you should also think about the idling pin and mixture screw also when your setting up your new carb
to make life easier tho, start with the 19mm carb with a standard airbox, then adjust accordingly, once the carb is setup rght, then fiddle if you wish with the air filter connection - it should make the job much much easier
the black carb will have a 92 jet. this will be fine untill you have the rollers setup (will be lighter with the bigger carb and new barrel) needle at top or second depending on the needle fitted as they use a couple for some reason. you will probably drop it back as far as an 82 but do it a jet at a time as stated in the guide. the bike will tell you what you need to know if you know how to listen
ask if your stuck tho. idle mix is around 2 turns out but can be a little more or less. again depending on the pilot jet as they do like to change the jetys these carbs come with
no worries.. remember work richer than you think you need and print off the guide. its better to learn what language your bike talks than to ask a million questions about it
