OK, progress. Now follow the original wire back to the starter relay, a little plastic box that should have four wires going to it. Post back when you've found it.

OK, so there are two wires that switch the relay on (low tension) and two wires that power the starter motor when the relay is triggered and the starter button is pressed. What colour wires are going to it?

Pull one of the brakes in and the relay should click - does it?

OK, we getting close. Pull off the green wire for a moment and take a wire from battery + to where the green wire was - does the relay click and the starter motor spin again?

OK, so that's the wire that should come from the brake light switches (I am assuming that the relay clicked on as well). What colour wires go to the brake light switches and from the starter button?

OK, so that's telling me that the relay is OK. The two red wires are permanent live from the battery and only get connected when the starter button is pressed, so my bet is that one of those white wires goes to the starter button. Is that correct?

Edit: Updated as relay did click.

*places bet on black and white*

Am I right? If I am right, then take off the red and white wire and check with your bulb to earth to see if 12v is getting down to the relay.

Righty ho, so you're gonna love this. Connect the red and white wire that comes up from the wiring loom to the blue and black wire of your new ignition switch. Connect the white wires from the loom to the white wire of the switch and try the starter button. Don't forget to pull the back brake on.

If this gets the starter motor working, it might even start the engine, as the green and black wires would normally cut the engine off if they are connected together. They will only connect together through the switch if it's off.
