Re: Gilera Runner 172 New Project Welcome. I'll be watching this! Love a project. Power depends completely on whos dyno you happen to put it on. Can be anything from 22-18bhp.
Re: Gilera Runner 172 New Project sorry mate pics are sorted now. and sorry for the slow updates. but youll be happy to know ive purchased some more parts so today i bought : NTN crank bearings and seals, new oil pump belt, new small end bearing, autoglym metal polish some gasket sealant for the cases, carbon fibre lense set, and a new exhaust gasket well what ive done so far is... split the cases and removed the old crank and bearings, ive also cleaned them up a little bit ready for paint although im unsure of the colour hmmm. ive also started polishing the transmition case witch is coming along nicely  but more to the point this week im looking to respray the pm pipe with black vht paint, drill the 28mm carb for a vacuum feed aswell as block off the oil feed as im going to premix, fit my pm tuning engine bush kit, and give the bike a good clean im also thinking of polishing the fork legs soon what do you guys think ? more pictures and updates to come soon as i get hold of a crank :glare:
Re: Gilera Runner 172 New Project just another quick update and a few pics So today i did a bit more polishing on the transmition case althought its still no where near how i would like it and i also polished the outside of the pm bracket which i think looks good heres a few pics: Crank bearings and seals Small end bearing transmition case PM bracket still need to drill vacuum feed for the carb and spray the pipe then cant really do much more until i get a crank cratch:
Re: Gilera Runner 172 New Project looking good mate doing better than my project lol keep up the good work :good:
Re: Gilera Runner 172 New Project Will definitely be keeping an eye on this, looks as if it'll be great once it's finished!
Re: Gilera Runner 172 New Project thanks for all the good comments ill keep the updates coming :good:
Re: Gilera Runner 172 New Project well bin looking around and ive decided to change the engine spec abit. first post has been edited to the new specs
Re: Gilera Runner 172 New Project if your planning on haveing a lot of power on the runners they can rust a bit around the engine mount and stand mount just have a look around and give it a good prod with a screw driver last thing you want 2 do is go 2 all this for the frame 2 be rotten i welded 1 for a mate a bit back it was older than yours and then had it powder coated for him
Re: Gilera Runner 172 New Project cheers for the tips mate well ive purchased 2 pm 59 exhausts 1 chrome 1 white which one do you think i should put on my bike then ? heres a pic of both oh yeah and i must say they i think i got a bargain
Re: Gilera Runner 172 New Project yeah gotta be the chrome one just gonna spray the white one black and sell it. UPDATE : today i drilled and fitted the vaccum nipple in my 28mm carb and i rebuilt the swing arm with pm tuning bushes and greased them up well also put the crank bearings, seals and 172 kit on and basically built the engine heres some pics altough the cases will be getting sprayed soon as i decide what colour i want the pannels cratch: ive built the engine with the best parts i had to hand just to get the engine in the bike for an M.O.T but orignal specs are still going in  oh yeah and this is the first time ive rebuilt the bottom end on a gilera but the crank is central in the cases and has good end float so should be fine and ive done ktm engines before so im not stupid if thats what your thinking haha heres the current specs : Malossi MHR 172cc cylinder and cylinder head PM tuning 52mm full circle crank Piaggio 180 variator Piaggio 180 clutch ( ordered blue springs ) Malossi kevlar belt Malossi rollers Dellorto 28mm phbh carb running pre-mix Standard reed block to be modified soon as i get some reeds PM tuning pm 59 exhaust enough until the bikes taxed and MOT'd then the tuning can really start :yahoo: Bearings in cases engine together with current specs also ive been offered a polini variator should i get it or stick with the 180 ? never used one before usually go for malossi but as its on offer
looking good polini is ment to be the best vario out there malossi is the same as 180 just 3 times the price personally id stick with the 180 one cheap and cheerful i would spend that spare money else were steve
coming along nicely mate similar spec to mine, how much for the white pm59? would go well with my paint scheme and mines seen better days lol
cheers for the comments think ill stick with the 180 vario then and save the money for other things like you said. and im open to offers on the white pm59 but its got a couple of quite shit welds on mate but could easily clean them up
