if you bride the relay and it fires over, the problem is with the starter switch not engaging. ( the starter switch is doing what you done bridging the connections to give power to relay unit ) if you have already got a new relay on the way i would also change the switch ( would be a headache if you fitted new relay only to find its still not starting up ).

Well the Starter relay came today 3 days late and I put it in and it starts better than ever, on the button everytime. It seems like the relay was dodgy for a while judging by how easy it starts now plus the new battery helped of course. Also straight through it's Mot today as well so such a relief. Thanks for the help guys.
