good progress. Keep it up This post has given me the inspiration to get the lads ped painted and sold and i've even dragged the RGV125 out ready to do some more of the restoration. Engine rebuild first
Thanks mate hopefully it's forks rebuilt and on, then wheels, and then I can wire it and out the rest if the engine in. After that it's just tank and seat and it's all good You should get some pics up of the RGV.
Brought home the painted bits from work, so I got a bit done. Thought Id get some pics of the frame modification I did before painting it. There used to be a huge airbox, and I'm gonna have a nice little foam filter so I got rid of it. That left a load of ugly mounting brakcets, so I drilled out the spot welds and cleaned it all up a bit. The rear of the frame looks nice and uncluttered now So this is the summary of todays work; Hopefully the next few updates will show some decent progress rather than little bits. Hope you all like it.
Also sorted out the carb for it. I have a 28mm flatslide that I want to put on, but that's gonna go on the high spec engine that I'm going to build (using another engine). So for this engine, I have a 22mm roundslide, with a sponge filter and 112.5 main jet. I have oiled the filter, and it's kept in a bag until I fit it to the bike.
Did a bit of work last night on the flywheel cover. Pics are self explanatory really, just made it look a bit more in proportion. Might seem a bit odd bit it look really nice on the bike bit more of a motocross theme really, rather than having loads of the chain covered up. Found another pic of it from before too Thanks
nice project, i bet that was loud with that pipe, my mate had an early cg125 that when he started it, it would idle, and when revved, it would run really slow with black smoke and horrible clunking sounds, it didnt use oil tho! had the oddest carb, it was kinda like a walbro with a diaphram but it had a butterfly valve too (hard to explain it from memory)... but yeah nice project, looking forward to seeing progress
Forgot about this thread, i'll get some pics up tomorrow as the bike is rolling on its new wheels and has all the tank and seat done
I took my bike test on a CG125, and that belonged to my uncle aswell! The reg No was TNX 40X if I remember rightly. Keep the pictures coming.
It's in my garage atm, frame is awaiting powdercoat. It's not got a custom rear seat and 200cc engine, exhaust is done and also i made a aluminium inlet for the 28mm flatslide carb.
Now in the garage instead of the shed, it's moving up in the world. Modified and heavily cut-down mudgaurd, made from a standard replacement New Headlight and indicators, i've now deceided im not gonna run indicators though Relocated original ignition barrel, used to be at the front of the bike. Wiring loom looks all messy but thats because its just loosly laid out (built from scratch) Custom carb setup, 28mm flatslide with custom manifold Thats it for tonight Bike still looks a bit shitty but thats only because its being all built up and then stripped for paint and powdercoat. hope you like it, about time for some new pics!
hope you intend to weld the remainder of the inlet or it could be a source of air leak project looking good
The flange was bored out to the O.D of the tube, which was then slotted in and welded all the way round on the other side (the weld has now been milled off flat), so it's completely air tight. The welds on the side of the flange in the photo are just for a bit more strength, and also they look nice
Would have said that ages ago myself, but knew did'nt have skill set to compare with such a class act! Guy has absolutely mullered my perception of cg's from my youth, his work's quite inspiring!. .
