Saved this from the scrapman today, left outside a house with a sign on it saying knock and ask, so I knocked and I spoke to the owner for around 30-45 minutes (I lost track of time) and he rode it around as a teenager but had no kids to pass it onto and due to ill health couldn't fix it up and ride it so he wanted it to go to somebody that would fix it up, ride it and look after it. im currently stripping it down to regrease the bearings, replace the cables and bar tape, getting some new tyres and making minor adjustments. I wont ride it all the time, but I will get the bike out here and there and use it as a back up bike.

I know that It is highly unlikely on here, but it is always worth asking, does anybody know how to get cotter pins out of a old crank? the ones on this road bike are doing my head in! just want to get them off so I can get the bottom bracket out and give it a good clean + grease up. then assemble it all again.

Either twat them out with a big hammer. There is a special tool for getting them out we had it for years but the hammer usually does it.

suppose ill have to soon, didn't want to damage them but I may have to resort to it. would help if my brother didn't decide to do a disappearing act on us again. no idea where he is, else id just have him do it. scrapping the lights. not worth messing with apparently.

If it's any consolation they were poop in the 70s keep them just for the retro look.

You can still buy replacement cotter pins. Cost about £1 each.

Just tap them off from the back. There not on a taper they just get stuck.

got this for a steal of £89 and i think if i spend about £200 it should look good as new and i might be able to sell it for a profit to the right buyer.
