Airfilter for tuned engines or not?

Got a midrace roxy with 19mm carb and i run the carb w/o air filter.Does the air filter affect the performance?
technodimwit#2
it can do,

but it does stop grit and dust getting into your engine and wearing it out quicker

Also depends if it has been jetted for it tbh! It could cause it to run very lean

erm, why are you running no filter? too many max power mags? :S DO NOT use a bike on road with no filter... roads are dusty shitty places.. engines dont like dust and shit, hence they have air filters... :S

Better sound w/o air filter and i think better acceleration. If i add a sport air filter how it will affect my performance?
chriscam13#6
No air filter will not give you better acceleration unless the engine was already getting too much fuel.

so if i add a sport air filter will not affect my performance i will just protect my engine from dust and shit?
chriscam13#8
Nope, though of you do, its a sign you need a smaller main jet

on mid race NO..... only full tuned drag bike and shown to slow with and air filer. but you should still run a free flow if you have a real mid race, give us your spec

pedstop gained 4mph on a dyno when testing a 94cc polini before a drag race day. so if you lose 4mph on a full race 94cc on a mid race 70cc.... 1mph but your engine will say thank you ever day it runs

need a pic of the parts or of my bike?

of your bike, you dont see a lot of hebo racings now days, you should post up some photos

but to reply to your question, if your kit is a real RACING then yes you would not be doing a bad thing by fitting a free flow filter, it would also be a good thing to up the size of your carb to 21mm minimum, i would go for a 24mm flat slide for road and 28mm for racing ppl.

malossi filters are some of the best imo.

no fliter is not a bad thing if you only run in dry weather and dont mind having to replace your reed petals, piston and piston kit on a regular basses. the extra dust and grit will just make for extra wear, needing extra services.

all filters are restrictive to a point, the trick is to put on a filter big enough that any decrease in flow wont be noticed by the engine.. if you stick a filter on a bike jetted for no filter it will run rich (unless its a fucking massive filter) still... running zero filter is just silly.. run a flat backed filter.. get EVEN MORE noise than without a filter (also helps with the inlet pulse reflection... will gain power with a flat back free flow filter)
Vanyx#17
double layer stage 6 filter will do the shit?
