You would need a new crank but not a gear up kit. Most 70 kits need the gear up to compensate for the narrow powerband . The problem is that when the variator is fully open (around 42mph on an Aerox) the only way you can go faster is by increasing the revs most kits reach maximum power at around 9500 revs which is around 55-60mph to get past this you need to maintain power to increase the revs but is at this point they start to lose power. Gear up kits allow a higher road speed at lower revs so the power is still available at higher speeds. Some people say that the gear up kit will affect acceleration, but this is minimal as a good variator will compensate for this and the 70 kits tend to produce more power at lower revs than for instance the streetrace. The stage 6 kits hold onto their power all the way to 11000 revs so they can acheive the higher speeds without the gear up kit but at higher revs. The trade off is that high power at 11000 revs is hard on the crank hence the need for a stronger crank. I would go for the stage 6 kits and new crank every time as the extra few pounds spent against a gear up kit means that you know that you have a strong bottom end and anyway you cant go screaming around at max speed all day cos you won't keep your licence.
Here's a very informative piece on gear up kits from the pedparts blog. My aerox has a streetrace , no gear up kit and it will do 70 as confirmed by gps. any way this is interesting reading http://www.pedparts.co.uk/blog/do-i-need-a-gearup-kit-with-a-malossi-or-polini-sport-70cc-kit
Your gps must be wrong. But yes they do have a Stage 6 Sport Pro MKII as I own one. It runs 15-18bhp standard. If you want a bike usable on the road I advice a gear up. As they start revving them selves to peaces after 55. How ever they do not do a aircooled sport pro MKII so I'd advice a polini sport, You can always raise the the exhaust port 2-3mm as that's pretty much the only difference other than the piston. But that doesn't matter.
have u still got ur poline m8 for sale and im going to upgrade the crank any way so its between the stage 6 (wat 1 for ac) and the poline sport (what about poline corsa)
I'd just buy the corsa if your upgrading your crank. And no my polini was donated to my mate. They only do the MKII racing which'll be crap in ac imo.
can you pm me what ur poline was like and whats the difrence between the corsa and sport other then the corsa (25-30%) more power any dyno read outs between the 2 as is it worth the price diffrence what about mallosie ones for ac
Don't need a gear up. but I'd buy one if you want more speed. my sport ran 9bhp/mates corsa with bigger wheels ran 10.2, After I ported I had 9.98.
ok m8 so porting has got to be cheaper then the diffrence in price in the 2 its just as it said 25 to 30% more power what speed did you get out your and also how much more speed with gear upp kit do u recon m8
