sorry didnt notice you said this, it will be your piston rings. my speedfight did this, broke down, worked for another week, then broke down again and just woudnt start. was the compression rings. there cheap enough and easy job. just do it correctly!

take the spark plug out, put your finger over the hole were the spark plug goes, if it pops your finger off the hole you have enough compression.. "be carfull with your ht lead or you will get a shock lol"

Mine has been fine for a year now all of a sudden it's turned into a stroppy teenager and is throwing fits!

Ok, I fingered the hole and erm, when I turn it over i can feel it trying to push my finger out. Was scared at first so didn't push hard incase it hurt me lol but when I realised It was pain free I could keep my finger there with a bit of force.

Should an engine with good compression just blow your finger out with ease?

you should never be able to keep your finger over it. it should just pop it off!

Ok ok it does sound rather rude!

Back to my dirty bits! I've stripped the oily bits, exhaust is off, head is off, barrel is off and also the piston. The rings are intact, move freely but the piston is rather scored and looks like it has some heat marks on it, I'm disappointed to be honest was hoping to see something obviously wrong. I can get a new piston and rings for £22 so may as well replace it while it's out.

the rings can still move freely... its cause they could be worn down on width so you lose area that they are pressing onto your bore
