belt slip maybe or a main bearing on its last legs...or maybe just the sound of the fan spinning around and displacing air.

youll need to get the variator and clutch nut off, so an electrical impact gun or the relevant holding tools will be required...plus your gonna need a heat gun to heat the cases up...apart from that, the normal socket set and screw drivers etc for working on engines...

i wondered with all the heat the clutch bell took from the original clutch, could it be damaged somehow? is there something on the clutch thats only done 150miles that would give away if thats the prob because its more of a ringing when u have the case off

the thing is they do kind of make a slight high pitched noise at certain revs, if its otherwise running ok, i wouldnt worry too much..

Blue burnt clutch bell can be caused by the clutch slipping, thats probably the main problem. The whining noise could be a number of things, belt slip, dodgy bearing somewhere, knackard transmission gears.

If the whole clutch bell is burnt blue then your just fucking lucky it never caught fire. Think how mega red or even white hot it must have gotten to turn blue.

The bell on my skipper has a few blue heat marks on it from when I did a burnout before having a fresh tyre fitted a while ago, smoke poured from the tranny casing as my clutch was slipping and is pretty much naff now.. Thank god nrgandy is hooking me up with a newish one.

I would get a new clutch and bell, new drive belt and see if that sorts it. If not then your gonna need to dig deeper, bearings, gearbox replacement etc.
