Oil is nothing to do with power its to do with surface area and temperature, semi-synthetic or synthetic is fine to be run in a 70, i ran pj1 synthetic blend and it ran fine...

I'm far from crying ;) Has anyone even asked what cylinder he is using ? No point using proper exspensive oil on a shit 50 or a sport.

God in my/school days, strapped for cash ran our geared 50cc's on chip/sunflower oil stolen from our mom's kitchen. Wouldn't advise it though! I did use Castrol on my later tuned RGTV50 topping out at 14k RPM. Strawberry beat fish and chips!

I have a £35 65cc barrel from poland (yes i know you get what you pay for but ive done 3000+ Miles on it).
When I run it on semi-synthetic or synthetic I notice a difference.
With synthetic oil my engine revs nicer, vibrates and "hums" less.

So I all-ways run my engine on fully synthetic for piece of mind.

Castrol R offers good lubricity and from memory is biodegradable but is a gummy oil. It will gum up the rings and is not the best oil for a water cooled two stroke with a power valve as it tends to gum up the operation of the valves (lower operating temperature over an air cooled engine), which is not a problem in a competition engine where regular inspections/rebuilds are carried out. Castrol R is also a relatively unstable oil and not recommended for long term storage, I think you will find that Castrol themselves recommend their more modern oils over Castrol R for modern egines. I assume your engine does not have a power valve, so use it if you wish, but you may have to de-gum the piston/rings if you notice a power loss after a while. To use an oil simply for the smell is rather foolish if it is not suitable for your particular engine.
Also look at Castrol A747 which is a castor/synthetic blend and may be a better option. I think Maxima 927 is another castor/synthetic blend. But, do your own research, then make a choice once you are happy.
