i chickened out and left the barrel alone and just matched the cases. opened up the crank cases but nowhere near as much as waxhead and minor do.
tapping noise is most likely valve clearnces and the leak is either a gasket or a brake pipe.
i don't know of anyone but it means getting hold of a powervalve and powervalve servo.
you can widen them but leave yourself at least 2mm for the base gasket to seal onto. Waxhead and minor know more than i do, i'm sure they'll help.
take that chamfer a lot further back, say upto about 5mm from the inside of the barrel if that makes sense, the shallower angle will give better...
