no you should have left it standard on the carb as your are replacing like for like on the exhaust
check your rectifier is not shorted out
look on google for a wiring diagram, i had the same problems with my kawasaki, had to make a loom from scratch
are all the gasket on the carb and head ok? are the casings ok on the engine no gaps or cracks? may be a air leako_O
you can decline to buy if it is not listed correctly
