my bike coughs and splutters at low revs and the tone deepens, from what i gather this is the idle mix/pilot jet incorrect?

its most likely just a restrictor pipe, only there to disrupt the resonance and give you less power.

similar thing happened with me, a bloke at the garage were i worked got clamped and phoned us up, we came down with some tools and after 10 mins...
may be a silly question but can peds get clamped for parking in the wrong place, and whats to stop you from putting it on a trailer and driving...
have u bled the system? any air trapped in there will make it spongy. had the same on my front brake, speedy brakes aint fun to work on.
