12000 miles is alot for a 2009 scooter but end of day if the scooter is restricted and dont that the engine should be still in good maintaniance...
want that sort of speed then get 70s 21mm carb and gear up kit
will do 60-65 on flat not 70
im not being funny or anything but if you aint going to take advice from these above, you prob wont listen to advice we give you about 70s bbk,...
open air filters do work on 70s, its just who sorted it out and set it up, if u go put an air filter on and dont have a clue and random jets n...
put your mind to it and try your hardest and alot of things are possible :)
good it is possible to 172 a 50cc engine but stupid as takes alot of modding and unreliable

i personally wouldnt get gear up, ive been told by a friend who is experienced with this stuff the gears pull at different times everytime
listen to jonny he is a very knowlaged man ;) open air filters drink fuel and pointless :P
if i was you id ditch the gear up kit and get new crank
were did you find that information? :s ali cyclinders bolt on as you said but dont take hours to break in they more or less break in after 15-30...
id say do it but smart thing to do if buy 125 engine then put 172 on that as will be more reliable

i got a new float bowl off pm tuning it came and decided to still leak so i went and got some blue gasket sealer and stopped the leak :D got it...
