Make sure the hole in the fuel filler cap isn't blocked. If it's blocked by some crap it'll create a vacuum in the fuel tank and petrol won't get...

They do look similar but looks can be deceptive. Seeing as we're talking about your brake calipers here I don't think I'd risk it for a biscuit....
