Yh 3000 RPM is to high mate you need to lower it down to about 1500 to 2000. If you keep the idle/tick over to high the bike can start to run hot...

Kick start is just the way to go at the end of the day if youve got a 70s kit, that way it cant go wrong unless somthing shears in the kick start...
