50cc engines have a very narrow powerband, they need a good variator to keep the engine in it, if the weights are too light they dont have enough...
If it dies instantly and doesn't splutter to a stop then it's got to be electrical like a loose HT lead or a live wire shorting.
That sounds a good start to me, the Aerox runs 6.5g as standard but most people drop 2g and run 4.5g this allows the engine to reach the powerband...
I would suggest that the variator weights are too heavy and the variator is fully open (closed?) before the engine hits the powerband.
