Runner 172 Project

well its been a year since i sold my last bike and had a car, well 3 lol bored of them now, i need that andrenalin buzz back in my life.

i was looking for a project for a while but nothing really came up. then i got a call out the blue from my good pal ashley106 lol saying his mates selling his bike cheap. straight away added him on facebook and arranged to pick it up asap. its a bit untidy at the minute but once im finished it should be a beaut

here's a few pics he took for me as i havent had a chance to take any yet















came with a set of metalic green evo panels with a few scratches down the left side where the lad came off although they're not too bad

spec so far;
- pm tuning 52mm crank
- malossi 172 kit
- 25mm delly carb
- pm tuning inlet
- pm52 exhaust (probably be for sale soon)
- vx forks (need new seals i recon)
- green evos full set
- kundo rear shock
- carbon lenses
- white inners
- nrg front wheel
- malossi boost bottle (5bhp)

thats it off the top of my head lol

got it running on the drive for a few seconds but had to kill it as didnt have the correct washers for the variator so didnt want to break anything, that was after being stood for around a year aswell so not bad

plans;

well it's basically gonna get stripped right down to the frame and fully rebuilt, replacing and cleaning/ painting as i go

- new disk cases as these have a crack around halfway down
- possibly mild road porting and flowing
- full engine rebuild in new cases with new bearings etc
- possible srt lightened parts
- uprated variator
- powdercoat wheels, fork legs and possibly frame
- different exhaust
- drilled and polished side casing
- respray a few panels
- all the little bits inbetween

UPDATE

well i was back home for the weekend and woke up at 10 on saturday morning which is unsual for me lol so i thought best crack on forgot to take pics from the start of the day so i'll just whack the progress ones up




engine out



dirty engine and exhaust although i peeled all the kevlar off the end can and its just a normal red one underneath its just faded loadsss so i'll polish it up and give the chamber a lick of paint and probably sell and get something different



tank, loom and other bits off aswell




engine on it's own, need to borrow my mates impact gun to get the wheel and clutch off




now the bad bit, the crack in my cases



that was it for the day as it started raining and the screws that hold the radiator in are seized sold and rounded

really need to find a new set of cases cause then i can start taking these one apart and rebuild it with all new bearings etc. and maybe a bit of a tickle

whipped the head and barrel off for a look and its absolutely immaculate! might give the pm kit a bash though as i've heard good things about them

Yeah don't worry the 52's going as soon as I've sorted it out lol gonna put aTDR pipe on my list for Santa I think

Not much progress to report either as I'm still trying to find a set of cases, there are bits I could be getting on with like spraying and the likes but only being home at the weekends is a bit shit

 

its going to an interesting project cant wait

Look on gumtree mate or in the wanted sections..loads on there as I was recently looking for one myself..what colours are u planning 4 it

appreciate the help mate but only really looking for the cases cause cant afford to buy a complete engine lol and cant be bothered to try and sell the extra parts if i did lol

will crack on tomorrow weather permitting and try and get it down to the bare frame and start prepping and give it a coat of hammerite, then start polishing things i think like fork legs :grin:

 

Got the radiator off today before the rain ended play lol

Took the absolute piss! 2 bolts were seized solid, ended up having to saw one off and drill the other one out

Also going to look at a set of cases on Saturday so hopefully I'll be able to crack on with the engine soon :yahoo:

 

Well I haven't done much for ages on this so thought I'd best crack on a bit!

Completely stripped everything off the frame today, gonna sand and hammerite it black on Wednesday as there are a few rust spots.

Pretty sure I've found another set of cases just waiting on a mate and then once I get some dish I'll rebuild them

 

Since then ive completely stripped the frame down to just having the shock attached cause i need a long socket for it lol

ive also sold some bits and started buying bits aswell, recent purchases being;

- Drum 125 cases, still at my mates and have been cleaned since pic
- 28mm oko flatside carb
- stage 6 28mm inlet
- SRT lightened flywheel
- PM bearings and seals kit
- bung for waterpump
- pm59 in need of some work but will come up fresh

also started to polish my tranny cover cause i got bored lol soon to be drilled and have areas of paint and polish, should look nice one done

- water pump plugged and run leccy pump and premix

- standard clutch with uprated contra and green springs

- secondary gear up
- stage 6 vforce 3 reedblock, still need to buy
- 28mm oko flatside carb (kehin copy)
- pm59 exhaust sprayed black with polished bracket and crabon endcan
- sidecasing, drilled, polished and sprayed black
- SRT engine bushes, still need to buy

Bodywork/suspension/wheels
- metalic green evo panels with black bits to cover up damage lol
- swap/get inners resprayed to gloss black
- gloss black NRG front wheel and runner wheel with polished lips
- vx forks sprayed gloss black, need new seals and steering bearings
- kundo rear shock
- paint frame
- new rear mudguard
- new small fly screen
- maybe oversized/wavy disc and braided front hose

then just all the little things inbetween to finish it off lol

 

because a few people i know have had them on there bikes and seen better results than from the malossi kit

if i could afford it i would get the malossi kit ported but i cant so pm is the next best thing imo
