Thanks bud. Makes more sense for it to be a cold start control. Is it an issue for it not to be connected? Will i run into problems or is it fine.

You may have a problem as it probably is for starting from cold
If the scoot has a normal carb with electric choke would think it's for that.
If you can test the harness and see if when ignition is on one of the wires for that unit is live 12v+ on one of the wires, and see if you can find where the other wire goes maybe be able to work it out.
What are the colors of the 2 wires?

I think its meant to connect into this wire coming from the auto choke. As you can see the auto choke wire leads into a clip connector but one of the wires turns into a separate connection. When i took apart the bike thats how it looked.

I believe i need to take apart the connection and put the unit in between right ? Theres nothing on google about these

The blue wire coming from the auto choke connects to a black wire

Most Yamaha,s, the black is an earth (negative)
and by the photo that is right for the choke, but the other choke wire seems to be wired correct, yellow
That unit maybe a resistor for the choke and been bypassed
