So i was riding my Yamaha BWS CW50 1995 today. I started it at first kick on a cold day, like it always does (stood in unheated garage). I went over to my friends house, where it just stopped by itself when i stopped reving it. I tried starting it again, and it was very hard to start. It required 50+ kicks and the choke was halfway out. When i got it running, i had to constantly rev it to keep it going. I went to my other friends house and were at his place for a while and when i decided to go home, same thing happend, but this time it needed more kicks. I used so many kicks that i even got sweaty, on a cold day... But eventually i got it started again(had to use choke half way out). But while i was driving home, it almost died mid way. The second before it died, i used the choke for 2 seconds and turned it off again, that kept it running till i got home. Anyone know whats wrong? Clogged carbeurator, filter or bad sparkplug? Sorry for cluster writing, tried getting it as detailed as possible.
The more detail the better. Sounds like you've picked up some crap in the carb, slow jet blocked most likely. Have you got a fuel filter in the line? When was it last changed? Have you got the standard air box or an open/race type filter on? And welcome to ScooterShack
I bought it four days ago, so i doubt anything has been changen on it recently. But since i bought it, it has started very easily and been running nice. I dont know if i have a fuelfilter due to me never having the plastics removed since i got it, but i will check tomorrow. There is just a normal airfilter box mounted on atm And thanks for the welcome
Ok then. Time to get the spanners out. Take the airbox off, clean it thoroughly inside and out. If you have a sponge filter inside, wash it out with Fairy liquid, dry it, spray it with foam filter spray (gives it a light coating of oil to help trap little bits) Fit a fuel filter in the line between the carb and tank if you haven't already got one. If you have change it. You will preferably need access to a compressor for this bit. Drain the carb. Take the carb off. Remove the float bowl. Inside you will see the float, float needle, slow jet, main jet. Remove them and clean them, keep them safe. Remove the slide, slide spring, slide needle spring clip, and slide needle. Clean them, keep them safe. Remove the idle screw, remove the air/fuel mix screw. Clean them, keep them safe. Clean the outside and inside of the carb with thinners or similar. With the compressor, blow through every hole that you can see. Big and small. Rebuild the carb. Put the air mix screw all the way in, then turn it out 2 full turns. While the carb is off, check the reeds for any damage, cracks or bits missing off them. Any signs they will need to be changed. Check that the manifold has no cracks or air leaks around it and the gasket is good. Put the carb back on the bike. Put the airbox back on the bike. Make sure the connection between the carb and airbox is good and tight, with no splits in the pipe in between. You will need to kick it a few times to get the fuel back into the carb when it's back on the bike, and adjust the idle speed once it's running again. I think thats about it.

when you blow that carb out DO NOT look in the holes while doing it ( some folks just feel the need to) and wear some eye protection to, if any cleaner/thinners get into your eyes its gonna hurt like mad and nodoubt mean a trip to the local A&E
Reporting back! I cleaned the air filter, and was going to get a fuel filter, but they didnt have any in the local store, so i will get one later. And after cleaning the carbeurator thoroughly, i got it started after a few kicks and now it is healthy and running nice. (Thanks for the tip tamiya And also thank you very much for the help Stevep. Without you, it probably wouldnt be running again before i would have gotten a friend to look at it. I will for sure use this wonderful forum again!
Its got a gianelli extra v2 exhaust, doesnt really make it that much faster without the restrictor. So it goes about 75kmh instead of 60kmh
I think thay actually come with a wheelie bar looking thing which is supposed to hold up the taillights. Atleast i got one when i bought it. Bws are also unbelievely easy to pop up on the backwheel.
No worries. I actually have noticed. As soon as their problem is gone, they dont report back because their problem was solved
yeah my tenant had one that i had a little blast around on, his had a 70 kit which made it even more prone to flipping up.... then the state road people came and took his licence plate off it.....
Same here, 50cc's arent allowed to go over 45kmh in Norway and if the police catch me, im up for a big ass fine ;(. But that wont stop me from installing a 70 kit though
whats dumb is how its illegal to have a 50cc with no restricter, yet i can legally ride a 'busa.... how does that even work!?!!
